Star Shaped Lincoln

Hello,

Hopefully I am submitting this correctly. Can anyone provide some insight as to why this 1937 D Lincoln Wheat Reverse Cent has a concave star shape on the obverse? I truly appreciate any input given. This coin was found personally in a random coin roll.

Looks like a basic counter stamp. Interesting find in a roll, congrats. You can find other counter stamped coins on eBay. It is not stamped like that at the mint. It is something some folks do or buy, like for lottery scratchers or as a lucky coin.

Someone was fooling around with a punch long ago. Essentially it is just a damaged coin but in today's coin market there may actually be some collectors who would pay a premium for it. (I'm not one of them.)

Well, looking for that date, this popped out. THIS DATE, hit the bone and made me see
embossed stars. What a quawinkeedink.

When I was a youngster I bought, for 25 cents each, a cent with Lincoln smoking a pipe and one with him smoking a cigar. Someone had a punch and stamped them. I thought they were amazing !
Now that I think of it, I bought them with a silver quarter....darn.....

They take the counterstamp just fine but if any zinc gets exposed in the process then there can be issues.

Same for elongated cents.
