State Quarter First Day Coin Cover Question.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I own a complete set of the FDCC seeing as how they are probably the worst value-holders of any US Mint product I've ever bought. It was the State Quarter Program that got me interested in coin collecting and I picked up this set individually, direct from the Mint @ $19.99/ea until later reduced to $14.95/ea. Luckily for me I concurrently began purchasing precious metal coins as well at that time.
The FDCC state the included coins come from"...the first day of mintage..." I read that the five State Quarters produced each year of the program were struck for approximately ten weeks each. This makes me think day one mintage had some pretty new dies. Is this the case? Also, can this be construed as a 'First Strike" or not? I'm merely trying to put the best face on this purchase for my own self esteem or in case my wife ever decides to ask me about them.

Coin collecting is a hobby. As long as you enjoy it and spend disposable income in reasonable amounts, you don't need to worry about "value" over the long term. Golfers don't care about the "value" of green fees.
Those covers introduced you to the larger world of coins and hopefully many years of enjoyment. They sound like a good value to me.
Prepare to take a big loss if you ever decide to sell. The First Day Cover market, like the stamp market itself, is in decline. Young people have no interest in stamp collecting. They rarely even use stamps.
I'll be a contrarian here.
Maybe some day people will develop an interest in these "first day of issue" coins.
With all the special labels for Early Release, First Strike, etc., it would not surprise me if these could either be collected as is, or slabbed as first day strikes.
Long as we love the stuff we have were good 👍
@heavymetal: I did the same thing! We might be the only two that did. I rarely even think about them anymore - one of my grandkids will get them someday.

perhaps decades in the future the collectors will warm up to them instead of treating them as the only 100 ft tall pile of cicada shells in the world
are they listed in the mega-red?
