1989 Perez Steele Celebrations Gem Mint rate

Picked up an autographed 1989 Perez Steele Celebrations postcard. Was planning on just authenticating the auto, but when it arrived I saw the postcard was in really good shape so I’m now considering grading the postcard too. Then I looked at the pop report:

An 80+% gem rate? On a 1989 release? A postcard, no less? I was shocked to see that. My card - the Stargell - has only gems! I’m rethinking getting the card graded now… I don’t want to ruin the pop report if it comes back lower :D

Is this gem rate abnormally high for a release from back then? I got it purely for the auto - I don’t follow postcards in general, but I assumed they’d be subject to centering, print defects, etc like cards are. Guess not.

Those Perez-Steele were printed by the metric ton and purchased by collectors who immediately stored them in careful and protected manner. The only surprise to me is the Gem rate is not 90%

1989 is not only Junk Wax era but Junk Postcard era :)

It's the singer not the song - Peter Townshend (1972)
