    There was consideration to bring back the half dime during that period too. John Sinnock even created a design that would later be used for the Franklin Half Dollar.

    Keep in mind the first class letter postage rate in 1942 was three cents. Letters, including APO, were sent in Much greater volume than today.

    I have been thinking that way for a while. It would cost less than 3 cents to make and the Mint would save virtually all the costs from the cent and nickel. The counterargument I hear is the coin would be too small for people using it today.
