The obv die polish of this dime created a noticeable beveled area all the way around the portrait. Is this an indication of anything other than die surface maintenance? The rev is unremarkable. Peace Roy

At first the die polish on the obverse looked to me like it was the result of polishing away clash marks.

But I didn’t see any evidence of clash on the reverse, so they must have polished the die for some other reason.

Thanks for opening up the pics. I'm thinking rust maybe but they went all around the portrait.

There's no reason why there needs to be a clash on the reverse. If they reworked the one die, they could have replaced the other. Dies don't stay together for their entire life.

    That’s a good point.
