Another British Penny Question

In my catalog "Coins Of England & The United Kingdom, pre- decimal issues" ( Spink 2024 }, it said of the Pennies for 1944, '45 and'46 that most pennies of these dates were darkened at the mint. Would this mean that some were not darkened leading to some varieties ?

Remember reading about this on another forum.
Apparently there were some that were not darkened and command a 100% premium
so if it is worth $3.00 darkened, the it would be worth $6.00 undarkened.
I don’t think that this could be called a variety though as this would be done after the
    Pennies were struck.

There's always a possibility an undarkened one might turn up. That said, I saw a huge number of UNC 1946 pennies for sale at the (now defunct) Dolphin Coins in London years ago and they were 100% darkened.

I have a 1944 Penny that is mint darkened, bought from a dealer. I have another 1944 Penny that is brown in color, you can see the difference when the two coins are side by side. Would you say that this other coin wasn't darkened or is it from wear ?
