I just need PCGS to give it a 63 or 4 then go for the gold. That shouldn't be too hard seeing how they're tighter than 291fifth on a Monday morning.

I have a few nice Anacs coins in inventory. They sell well.

MS 64 (65 obverse, 63+ reverse for contact marks and weak strike)

It’s a beautiful coin but has a weak reverse strike for an MS 65 grade. I was under the impression that a soft / weak strike kept coins below grades of 65 and higher. Is that inaccurate?

I have noticed several MS 65 peace dollars with weak reverse strikes.

That quickly dismissed any notions of upgrading 🙄 but it is a gorgeous coin, full luster, purplish toning, and looks like a 7 in hand.

I sent her to CACG they body bagged said PVC. Gave her a bath in acetone then sent to PCGS where she crossed.
I may have found my next passion the luster is addictive.
Next stop CAC for my first sub there.
Do you think she will pass?

I will realize that too but for me it's like a rite of passage. I'm not used to buying graded coins I'm pretty much still learning.
I've always made moderns but...you can't find these in circulation

I little better shot (below). I'm very curious about the sticker and what they like or don't like.
When tilted the high points show but that's why it's a 65 in the first place, right?
Or will they shoot it down! That is the question worth asking/paying.

I got to be reasonably good at predicting how PCGS would grade Peace dollars. That experience & knowledge did not transfer at all to CAC. What they see and what they like is still a bit of mystery to me.

With your amount of experience that doesn’t exactly instill confidence.
From everything I’ve read here it always seems to be a crapshoot and 40% of a meticulously picked sub is a great average.
Certainly eye appeal is a factor and weighted against specific nuances for each year within each series.
Is JA literally the only finalizer because I wonder how often his counterparts would be in agreement or not.

It's certainly not random. They have their criteria. It's just obvious that it's different than PCGS.

In broad generalizations, I'd say PCGS focuses more on luster. CAC(G) is very critical of surface issues that PCGS might let slide. CAC(G) seems to care a bit more about strike. Blast white Peace dollars often do better at PCGS. I'd also say PCGS and CAC(G) are, on average, about 0.5 point grades apart, with PCGS being graded a bit higher.

I have to echo the observations regarding Peace dollars and PCGS vs. CAC/CACG that @BryceM made so well. CAC appears to drill down to surface issues more than PCGS and they appear a bit more strict in grade, too. Good luck on your submission.
