1885-O Morgan DMPL?

I am wondering if anyone would hazard a guess from these photo's as to whether this is DMPL or not. Not sure about SEGS grading.

Images can make PL and DPL/DMPL surfaces difficult, if not impossible to judge, but from what I can see, that coin doesn’t look close to DPL/DMPL.

Obverse looks like it's probably DMPL, but I don't think the reverse has enough contrast for DMPL. It's tough to tell from your photos.

The degree of contrast isn’t a requirement for PL and DMPL/DPL dollars.

I question when coins of that caliber are in non top TPG holders, I'm sure it's for a reason. Your best bet is to find a CAC stickered DMPL Morgan and compare the quality of the mirrors. We cannot guess from photos although generally a very dark field like in your first photo is promising, it cannot be relied upon.

We need much better pics to give you reliable opinions, but honestly I wouldn't even rule out the possibility that the obverse of that coin is polished. The obv surfaces just look weird to me, some of the halos around the stars specifically. And the fact that it's not even close to the reverse surfaces.

1885-0 is a pretty common date to buy some nice DMPL Morgan's especially in ms64.
The images don't help make the coin appear to be DMPL and SEGS has been know to be a little loose with their grading unfortunately.

Agreed. In my experience, that TPG has slabbed problem coins with non-problem grades, as well as typical 3rd world overgrading. Coins in those holders need to be evaluated as raw coins IMO.

It doesn't look remotely close to a DMPL or even PL. I wouldn't grade it a 65 either, I would go a 64 or 63.

I have some limited experience with SEGS when I was putting my 7070 together... of the SEGS-graded coins I've owned, most appear to have been at least one or two grades "generous"... and their holders were about the most difficult to crack coins out of! lol! Seriously though, to the OP... if you've not already purchased that coin... don't.

Imaging PL and DMPL surfaces is really difficult. I tried... and gave up getting that TrueView "glamour shot" after a few weeks. It was a little disconcerting to have spent as much money as I did on camera equipment only to realize that there's actual skill involved! whodathunkit?! ;-)

I wanted a DMPL Morgan for my Box of 20... I completely understand the draw. They're beautiful coins! Works of Art! I ultimately settled on a PCGS MS64DMPL with as clean a cheek as I could find... Looking back on this journey, I probably would have saved a bunch of time, effort, and MONEY, if I'd just bought the coin I wanted in the holder I wanted...
