I have recently found a 1984 D Mint Mark 1984 penny. In decent shape. But I found someone on it that I've not seen yet. It can don't any information about. On the very bottom of the coin to the right side on the Obverse is a piece of the (copper plating) im assuming is missing. And right in that spot where it is missing is part on the word " trust". I don't know what that would be called or what kind of error that is. ?

    Howdy and welcome.

Without decent quality images all any of us can do is guess. When you have them and are able to upload them, they will be of great help.

    2 part problem

    1. something is bonded somehow to the coin
    2. another cent mashed its letters into whatever that stuff is. note the letters are backwards ("R" clearly backwards, and the order of the letters is in reverse)

    generically called "damaged"

Looks like glue or some other sticky substance is on the cent in question and another coin pressed against the blue and left an impression.

    good photo!

  • Thank you! I was afraid to clean it. I did and your were right. Thank you.

  • I was going through some bank roll pennies and found this 1980 D Mint Mark Lincoln Penny. I thought that is a very shiney pretty penny. Got to looking closer and was wondering... And I'm so new at this sometimes I doubt myself just like last time. Does this look like a double die or maybe repunch D? I know it's probably a silly question. But I just want to ask where people actually know what I'm looking at when I barely do

@VestaLee did you post the right pictures? There is absolutely no doubling of any sort visible in those pictures.

There might or might not be doubling on your coin in hand. We don't have your coin in hand. We can only go by what is visible in your pictures.

Do you see any doubling in the pictures that you posted? If you can't see it, then we can't either...

believe it or not those pics are different repunched mintmark coins

you can see from the detail compared to yours that your photos are too blurry to tell anything?

is your question about doubling also concerning the mintmark?

  • Yes. But clearly I was wrong and I appreciate all your help. Thank you

Like I have stated. I'm brand new and learning. Is why I post these things. So I know what to look for. Thank you have a nice day

Enjoy your coins and have time to look and post numerous photos. Guess your not going to post here since you don’t like the responses given?
