1960 d dime - rpm, and a lamination error?

SuzeSuze Posts: 26 ✭✭

According to Richard’s Roosevelt review 1960 had a host of rpm and doubled die, but there’s no mention of lamination error. Or is this perhaps a chip already missing on the planchet when it was struck? The A near it seems fully formed.. also I’m not sure if this is an rpm, or simply machine doubling on the mint mark, if that’s even a thing?
Thanks for any help!

    RPM description looks valid.
Did you outline the lamination in black or was this photo of the reverse as seen on screen ?
    Someone might need to know.
    The obverse looks kinda scuffed.
Play around with the lighting to illuminate any other questions, you may have .

Check your coin against the varieties listed on varietyvista.com and doubleddie.com .

It is a stain on the coin by the A. Not an error of any kind. ;)

Thanks, it is hard to see the layers on my pics, but irl it has dimension and can be felt. The black around it is not marker but how the light is reflecting off the sides of the indent. The exposed metal is very shiny, it’s probably PMD anyway, somehow a chip came off my little dime!
    Thanks again!

Thanks so much - Great sites! Sadly I couldn’t match any known variety markers so although it looks like an RPM I guess it’s just Machine doubling. Thanks again!

if it sticks up it could be something artificially bonded to it

if incuse, for a silver coin where a piece supposedly fell off, i'm bothered to think that a piece fell off and left a smooth bottom. but it is possible. can't figure out the color differences

Thanks for the input! I can’t figure it out either but the chip must’ve come off recently leaving a clean silver exposed I can only guess. Even tho I can’t find any proof of marker I think it’s an rpm d/d

That's because "Varieties" are many coins from the same die problem - Laminations are errors that are 99.9% one of a kind and no need to classify them.
