Rim Errors

It seems like a lot of 1968 pennies have "rim errors". Are any like these considered mint errors, or does this just happen due to being circulated? I have two 1968 D pennies with "in GOD We Trust" running into the rim. I also have one 1968 S (which has hardly been in circulation) but it looks like a ddo. Any insight would be appreciated.

Not an error at all, perfectly normal for the year. The same master hub had been in use for decades, the legends were originally somewhat close the edge and with continued wear kept creeping closer. Then, with wear on the individual dies, the problem would get worse. New master hub was made for 1969 which eliminated the issue.

the S coin has "machine doubling" and is still worh 1 cent because it is quite common and not made into the die. this type of issue come from loose machinery allowing the features on the coin to be pushed around by the machinery. the metal, as you can see, is pushed around. not something the mint wants to happen, but way too common and not something made into the die
