Don't know if many follow this, but it's National Coin Week (3rd week in April.)
This was started by the Guttag Brothers in 1923.
This is one of their storecards that commemorated the event:

I believe there are certain groups that place coins around to for the public to find so as to drum up interest in coins and coin collecting.
I read about them several years ago in the Seattle area [probably a nationwide practice]. It happened to coincide with the spring PNNA show.
