I was almost scammed in a Facebook group.....

I had a guy trying to scam me over a 1955 Topps Clemente rookie PSA 1.5. When I message the group owner if he could vouch for the guy, I got blocked and booted from the group. Is that normal for Facebook groups to go attacking the victims?

It is when the owner is part of or profits from the scam or is simply a petty little {insert expletive here}

I almost fell for a fake Ryne Sandberg scam on Facebook
(I was so stoked that a celeb actually reached out to me and chatted with me but it was just some fake profile with an AI bot...)

That's wild. I take everything with a grain of salt. The fact that his FB name was different than the name he gave me to send the money too was a huge red flag. Then PayPal stopped the payment was a 2nd red flag. Then I looked at this friends list, and he looked like a farmer from Alabama, yet his friends list was 90% Nigerians was a red flag. I decided not to follow through with the transaction. Nevermind the fact he sold the same card to multiple individuals.
Being booted from the Facebook group must mean its a scammers heaven just like the CGC message boards.

I collected CGC comic books for about a decade and always had good results from selling and buying comics on the CGC message boards. I actually sold an entire CGC 9.8 run of Walking Dead #1 to #150 to a collector in England and everything went smooth. When did the boards go bad?
Nov 2024 to be precise in the CGC Comics Forums. ALL safeguards have been removed between then and now, with last vestiges of buyer protection expunged this week. The new mod "Board Guide" stated "everyone deserves a second or third chance [to scam you]". I added the bracketed part, the rest of that tripe is a direct quote.
New members and those who do not realize what has what has occurred have been scammed as they falsely assumed it was safe because it's "CGC". Members who have been scammed/swindled/ripped-off/defrauded and mention it have any post to that effect quickly deleted by "Board Guide" and those member victims are summarily banned from the forums! The scammers remain unscathed and continue to post...

BTW ~50% of former post 2022 heavily active CGC board members have migrated to the newly created https://collectorsyndicate.com/

Thanks for the info I appreciate it.
The group that did this was HARMON'S OLD-TIME BASEBALL CARDS 24 - BUY-SELL-TRADE & SHOW THEM OFF. Someone expressed interest in what the group was. Totally assanine way to handle someone alerting the group to someone in there trying to scam people.
Was it a Roberto Clemente rookie or a Milton Bradley Nolan Ryan rookie?
It was a Roberto Clemente rookie. I was told I had to defer to you about MB Nolan Ryan rookies because apparently only you can tell them apart.
To repeat myself; Seems like classic profit based motive. Group owner-mod possibly in on it. Delete and ban is SOP for protecting ones own interests.
Only other explanation is deeebagggery

This was the exchange. As usual, do you due diligence. And forget about these group owners. Some of them really don't care.
