42 years old. hasnt pitched a full season in 3 years. ERA 5.48 last season. 6.75 so far this season. feels like Steve Carlton hanging on at the end.

I think there is zero chance he gets to 300 wins. He sits at 262 right now.

what do you think? anything left in the tank?

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

To my way of thinking Justin Verlander is past the twilight of his career, the sun has set. Instead of setting his sights on 300 wins he should be setting his sights on his foxy wife!!

300 is pretty much out of the question unless he pitches 3 or 4 more years more years which I dont see happening. Upton being his wife thats 200 wins on its own lol. He is pretty much done for just like Max Scherzer. No matter how competitive you are or how good you were father time always wins and you arent going to be an ace anymore in your 40s

It certainly looks bad. 1.76 WHIP is incredibly bad.

very true, father time is thus far undefeated.

I dont think were going to see 300 wins again and if we do itll be in like 20 years. TJ surgeries just happen to much. Verlander had a shot and the TJ surgery ended it, I guess maybe if teams are willing to let him pitch until hes like 50 he could with 6 or 7 wins a year. Mad Max isnt getting there. Kershaw has a small chance at it and after that no one other than really young pitchers have any shot it.

His mind is more on his family than it is on Baseball. Time to realize: "I gots mine, time to enjoy it!"

"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"

it appears that way. as a professional athlete, if your mind is not 100% focused, it is time to move on.

His minds fine, hes just almost 43 with a bunch of injuries and a TJ surgery in his late 30s. Theres only so long you can compete against 20 year olds no matter how focused and competitive you are

At this point, he's probably only pitching to move ahead of Walter Johnson on the all-time K list, and to also make sure Max Scherzer and perhaps Clayton Kershaw don't catch him.

I read somewhere that he donates his whole Baseball salary to charity. If true then let him pitch he isn't hurting anyone just helping!

Him and his wife did that in 2020 during the lock downs. I would assume they still have charities they donate to but the whole salary thing was special circumstances not the norm

  • Maybe a bit short sighted initially since the last 2 games Verlander has went 6 innings, allowed 3 ER, 7 hits, 3 BB, 1 HR, with 11 K. (@LLA, Tex)

In saying that he definitely went to a pitcher friendly park in Oracle field that holds fly balls easier which obv is key for JV.

My opinion is play till they telll you you're no longer wanted and or don't have the desire to compete. He obviously came back to prove something to himself after the injuries.
