Half Cent Experts- 1804 Cohen-6 Die State Help Needed

cmerlo1cmerlo1 Posts: 7,932 ✭✭✭✭✭

I bought this earlier today for what I considered a bargain price, considering it's problems. In the lighting at the shop I got it from, I didn't notice it was also a spiked chin. I was more interested in the massive cuds on the reverse, and was able to identify it as Cohen-6.

Ron Guth states in CoinFacts: "In the latest states, the Cohen 6 presents a massive cud along the reverse rim from 2 o'clock to 7:30. The late Gene Braig was fascinated with this variety, he collected as many different die states as he could find, and he produced the most recent and extensive listing of the die progression, with numbers for each distinct die state."

Can someone please tell me which die state this is? I do know this is not the lastest state.

Not meaning to call myself and expert, but Ronald Manley's book would be your best source. From the best I can visualize, it is a Cohen-6 Die State 9.0. That is my eyes seeing a complete cud above UN and the wedge shaped cud above A2 nearly to F and the die break above the A1 as it progresses toward the top of S1. JMO
