So how does PCGS handle this? Do they keep the coin as an education tool or maybe wholesale it out somehow as raw or details? Does the dealer get guide value or a calculated market value? Do they get market or guide minus "details" value and get the coin back?
Seems like a tricky scenario. Would be helpful to hear others that may have had to send coins back to PCGS and how they were handled.
Likely to be revealed in the future, but do you feel the coin was net graded? I've heard of gold sticker CAC gold coins in OGH and Rattlers get cracked out just to find they had filed rims and that is why the grade was so low.
Collector of Original Early Gold with beginnings in Proof Morgan collecting.
I'll reveal the images of the coin in its problem-free holder with the assigned grade in a few hours. At this point I just want to give folks who weren't here yesterday a chance to see the update.
Okay before I forget, and because this thread appears to have little outside interest in it, here are the images of the coin in its holder with the old cert number removed. How would you like to pay five-figures for that coin, perhaps at auction, only to find the graffiti on it?
When does graffiti transmute and become a historical artifact? How many years, decades, centuries or longer have to pass before transmutation takes place?

ithink it depends upon the rarity too. if it were a common coin the mental transmutation won't happen in the buyers mind
