Miami Dolphins haven't won a playoff game since 2000

in Sports Talk
Is it the coaching? Bad draft picks? Or maybe the party life in South Florida? Whatever it is, that's a long drought.

Not a Dolphin fan but I have lived in south Florida since 1974, so I have a close up look at them every season. Just seems like this team lost its way when Joe Robbie sold the team combined with the loss of the Orange Bowl as their home stadium didn't help matters either, that venue was one of the best home field advantages in football. Losing the Orange Bowl hurt the Miami Hurricanes in that way also. You can point to a myriad of things with the Dolphins, but those 2 things stick out for me. Just one bad decision after another by this team.
The Hurricanes kept getting hit with major violations which is what hurt them the most. The stadium location being so far from campus doesnt help.
For the Dolphins you have to make the playoffs to win a game. They really havent made the playoffs very many times in that time frame despite being mostly successful against the Patriots.
Theyve been better in recent years but one year Tua probably didnt even know where he was and Mahomes was on the other side and then the next year it was a back up QB against Allen because Tua had his who knows how many concussions. You can definitely blame drafting in recent years with a QB that had a long history of injuries in college
My buddy is a huge Dolphins fan and he gets more and more frustrated with them, QB has been a problem for them, Tua isn't the answer either but he is capable, their coach relies on Analytics way too much
If you had been to a Canes or Dolphins home game in the Orange Bowl you would know how much of a home field advantage they lost once they tore the Orange Bowl down, it was Death Valley LSU type loud where that old stadium would literally vibrate from 80K crazy fans. You are correct about that location in regard to the Canes, the issue is there is no land in Coral Gables where they can build their own stadium. Now the Marlins stadium they built on the Orange Bowl land is a terrific venue, but the majority of that teams fanbase is 100 miles north in the Boca Raton/West Palm area, thus the empty seats you see at their games. They only put butts in the seats there when a NY team or Boston plays there. And the Canes went through a period of violations, but those days have long past, and they are still mediocre overall. Stadium being 25 miles from campus definitely hurts when it comes to recruiting top star athletes there.
I believe the Canes had been expecting to have a deal with the Marlins that fell through before Hard Rock. Given the amount of public money Im not sure anyone actually had a choice about demolishing the old stadium for the Marlins. The location defiantly hurts recruiting when you have at least a 30 minute ride each way and the stadium is usually half empty because of it. With all the lawsuits the NCAA has basically stopped aggressively punishing schools being scared to do so but they did get hit with a big one a decade ago and their womens basketball team got hit 2 years ago right before the NCAA got nerfed.
The Marlins stadium was so ugly when it first opened with those crazy colors but really can never complain about being in Miami. Their big problem though is really is theyve just had bad owners. Fernandez dying in the boat crash many years ago certainly hurt but all their owners tear the team apart after any success not wanting to pay players. They had Yelich, Stanton, Ozuna as their outfield and got rid of them all in a sort period. Their current group owning them just isnt willing to spend or doesnt have the money too.
free public money to build a stadium but less ticket sales and no playoff ticket sales sounds like a net loss
I have a theory on why the dolphins often start strong but can never win a first round playoff game.
The dolphins aren't used to low temperatures so do worse late season especially at away games
The substantial truth doctrine is an important defense in defamation law that allows individuals to avoid liability if the gist of their statement was true.
And no Super Bowl wins in over 50 years.

I still say America's Team not having one Final Four in almost 30 years is the most embarrassing of playoff droughts. But yeah I'm shocked that the Mammals (oh my God that is one of my all time microaggressions/pet peeves anytime I hear them nicknamed "the Fish") too have not made the "Final Four" all this century!

Dolphin fans haven't had anything to get excited about since the early seventies. The one thing that I can't understand is that they have had some exceptional players but just can't put it together.
Reminds me of Jim Mora when the reporter asked him about the playoffs and he said "Playoffs? Your talking about the playoffs?, We're just trying to win a game."

I think I said something like that during one of UK's super down years (2009 or 2013 when we went to the NLT maybe?) when I said, Wha, Final Four!? Don't talk to me about...Final Four!? You kidding me, Final Four!? I just hope we can still make the NCAA Tournament and not make a complete fool of ourselves!
What I especially can't believe is how the Miami Vice intro/theme didn't include the Dolphins like how the show Dallas included Texas Stadium!
