Ovechkin rookie card value

With Ovechkin breaking Gretzky's goal record his cards are going up in value. Heres an example 2005-06 Parkhurst Alexander Ovechkin PSA 10 GEM MINT RC Rookie # 669. Sold recently on ebay at $595.00 and last Feb. when mine was graded it was worth about $479.00. Does it keep going up and hold or will drop down? I have some raw rookie cards and two PSA 9's. Hold the cards or sell and buy other cards I like more?

Playoffs are coming up, Washington is one of the top teams in the league and Ovi breaks the record tonight. Have to think we are near peak value - I’d hold through the playoffs, if they win a Cup lookout.
List now with a high BIN. Value will peak when he breaks the record, since that will be the moment of greatest demand. Look no further than the recent passing of Rickey Henderson, where his rookie cards sold 1.5-2X for the first two days.
Great advice. I guess same as Connor Bedard rookie card. It was like 2x the value then settled after a couple weeks. I got the card with a bunch of other cards no real attachment to it. Sell it and buy some older hobby box and have fun ripping some packs
His YG is down quite a bit from its all time high a few years ago. I bought one as a Xmas gift for my nephew back around 2017 for $300. In 2021 he asked me to sell it for him and I wanted a quick sale so I sold it to a local dealer for $6250. I believe he sold it for around $8k if I recall correctly. This was right around the peak. eBay now is about $4500. With a population of 1314 I can’t imagine it pushing the ATH anytime soon. Now if he was Canadian and not Russian it would be much higher IMO.

I think its complicated. Certain players seem to follow a hype wave where they seem to spike up in a big moment and then I guess it comes down how to people feel about the player afterward. I did not follow it closely but I imagine with Tom Brady the values went up with the Super Bowls but probably did not dip heavy after a period of time.
I think it comes down to do you think the demand will still be there after he scores the most goals anyone ever has? I do. I dont plan to sell right after cause I think its a nice card to have, someone who has had that career and will hold that important record. I get that cards weren't as popular when Aaron broke the HR record but if they were dont think it would have made sense to unload right after he broke the record because the cards would soon not be appealing. Or I guess the same could be said about Gretzky after he broke the goals record. That was definitely not a great time to sell.
Also, I mean he isnt collapsing into the finish line as some guys do to get their 3000 hits or 500 HRs. His goals per game played this season are about as good as anyone. Thought I saw something that he may not play past next year but if he did think he could pad the #s and make it hard for someone else to pass him anytime soon.
They play international rules now, not the same game. Not physical, not really that much fun to watch to be honest. Ovechkin is hardly the player that gretzky was. Not really that close. under these rules gretzky would have scored 250 more goals.
I made a special trip just to se gretzky play. For ovechkin, I could care less. Mario was mush better also.
However Alexander has had a great career and is most definitely one of the top 5 or so players to ever play. he deserves the accolades.
I agree Gretzky was way better. Ovechkin is ranked 56th on all time assists. Gretzky had 1,963 and Ovechkin has 724. Then there is all the other greats of other era's that are better - Bobby Orr, Gordie Howe, and Jean Believeau
Overchkin is a better goal scorer then Wayne, he would have scored 100+ in the 80s. Guys like Gary Leeman scored 50, Charlie Simmer, Denis Maruk scored 60, Mogilny scored 76, Hull 86.
Far inferior player for many reasons but he played in a much tougher era to score, if he started in 79 he would have scored close to 1000 for his career.
Ovechkin is a complete player and could easily have played in any generation. Personally, I think he is the second greatest scorer behind only Lemieux. Gretzky and Lemieux transformed the league into what it is today. Ovechkin is easily the most consistent goal scorer in the history of the NHL and deserves the title as the leagues all time goal scoring leader.
I would also say this isn't a should I only keep his card if he is the best hockey player ever discussion. Just should I sell or keep this card. Most will say Ovi is not better than Gretzky. And a PSA 10 of Gretzky will stay about 60x more valuable after Ovi has one more goal than him.
Think keep Ovi and if you have Gretzky keep him too. If you have Lemieux keep him as well. If you... Well you get the point.
But also, I'm biased. Home team. Have enjoyed watching him play. Seems like a good guy. But even with the rivalry I'd keep Crosby's card too.
You gotta look at the equipment Ovichekin has - Wayne was using wooden sticks, the skates are 20x better. The power of the composite compared to a wooden stick is crazy and Ovi had one of the best shots ever. Same as Bobby Hull transformed the game with his curved stick. Ovichekin might be the best goal scorer until Leon Draistal surpasses him but Wayne was an all-around better player because of his dominance of the game and playmaking abilities. They changed the game to stop Wayne and the Oilers.
The 80s Oilers were so good at 4 on 4 that the NHL had to step in and change the coincidental minor rules.
So they said no no, when there are coincidental minors we still play 5v5. Otherwise you get Gretzky/Messier/Kurri/Coffey out there on 4 on 4 .
Gretzky changed the game same as Bobby Orr changed the game. But Ovi is a pure goal scorer - lethal shot, beast of a player, He had the best one timer for two decades. Greatest goal scorer ever in the nhl I would say for sure.
interesting you say Draisaitl -- he is a good deal behind the pace of Auston Matthews:
Draisaitl has played 790 games, 399 goals and is 29 years old
Matthews has played 623 games, 398 goals and is only 27
I just think Draisatal is more capable of playing along time and him and McDavid should always be together even though they play alot on sepreate lines. Where as Matthews may lose Marner as if the Leafs dont do well in the playoffs again it might be time to part with him. Not sure what happens then. Last 4 years = Draisatal 200 goals and Matthews 199. Matthews seems more prone to injury - only playing 2 full seasons out of 7 vs Draisatal 6 out of 9 - I Took out the shortened season
Never heard of him until yesterday. Then again, I rarely watch NHL.
Terry Bradshaw was AMAZING!!
Ohio State Buckeyes - National Champions
This next post isn’t meant to diminish anything that Ovechkin has accomplished.
Neither Mathews or Draisatl will come close to the all time record. Ovechkin was the recipient of a perfect storm. The league sucked for a long time. They over corrected/reacted when it came to physicality. It allowed players to stay healthy but it took away from the beauty of the game (Imagine the NFL being flag football). They finally reverted back to the glory days (mid 90/early 2000s). It’s made the game more exciting/enjoyable. With the game being more physical, their numbers /health will decrease. Neither player comes close to comparison to Ovechkin,Lemieux or Gretzky.
