Can I split a submission across boxes?

mkivttmkivtt Posts: 19 ✭✭✭

Hi, I'm looking to have two coins graded. Together, they are over the $50K limit for USPS registered mail, so I need to pack each in a separate box.

I could submit them as two separate submissions. But is it also possible to have them be a single submission with a single submission form, just spread across two boxes?

Thank you.

    Welcome to the board.

To answer your question shortly, no.

To answer your question with a bit more length, what are the coins? I'm making assumptions here because you are a new poster and the manner of asking your question almost assuredly means that these are NOT $50k+ coins. Otherwise, you would have submitted before, or worked with a dealer, or understood private insurance, etc etc.

If you post pictures of the coins the board collectively can hopefully help save you the almost $1000 you are about to spend on postage and grading fees.

Thank you! I'll do two different submissions then.

I collect rare world crowns and buy directly from auctions, without a dealer. These two coins were purchased at a recent Kuenker auction and both Dutch crowns with populations of 11 and <20, respectively. I've been buying crowns at world-wide auctions for over a decade and having the coins graded afterward. I've shipped items over $50K in separate boxes before as separate submissions. This time I already had a form filled out for the two coins as one submission before remembering the USPS insurance limit. Before redoing it as two I just figured I'd ask.

I should probably work with a dealer at some point though because videos and pictures are not great for identifying certain potential issues. Maybe down the road.

You're quite welcome and I'm glad to be mistaken about the coins and your overall situation. The first message read like you had "discovered a rare error" or something of the like.

Please post images if you are interested in sharing in the World & Ancient Coins Forum, many of us would love to have a look. https://forums.collectors.com/categories/world-ancient-coins-forum

Haha, thank you, I've seen those threads, they are amusing at times. No, these are not supposed error coins. I'll post my current collection later. Having received the new coins in person I'm concerned they may not grade, but I'll post that separately after I hear back from PCGS in a few weeks. Thanks for your responses and the welcome.

Call customer service, they can answer your question. Also, what TPG. are you submitting to?
