Do collectors of Belize coins care about such things? Is this doubling unusual or is it seen on the entire mintage?

You should ask this in the World & Ancient Coins Forum.
You definitely have a double die but few in this forum know much about Belize coinage.

Is this coin a Coinstar or similar machine find?

An unnamed collector has spent the past year focusing and researching doubled dies on Canadian coins (specifically small cents 90% of the time) and while doing so he also took note of certain years and checked other denominations for the same or similar type of doubling.

With that said, he came to the realization that ALL 4 loonie designs minted in 2012 are subject to genuine hub doubling to some extent. Even know 2012 is notorious for die doubling it is a perfect year to explain my theory. Listed below is the years and types of doubling for 2012.

2012 Loonie - Doubled Die Obverse
2012 Security - Doubled Die Obverse
2012 Lucky Loonie - Doubled Die Obverse
2012 Grey Cup - Doubled Die Obverse + Reverse

Some of the ones listed have been posted here in the past, he is sure most of those who look for varieties he is sure has been seen and this is where his theory comes in.

In 2012 all 4 types of loonies were branded with some extent of a pivoted doubling on the obverse or reverse and gone into circulation without any notice for some time. Along came the 2013 loonie, once again showing pivoted hub doubling to some extent and could be found in circulation and from Mint Sets.

Within a 2 year period, the mint produced 2 different years and other denominations with numerous doubled dies just for them to disappear when they started minting the 2014 loonie.

To better understand his theory you must break down that 2 year period and think exactly why so many doubled dies happened and the sudden stop that came in 2014.

In 2012 the mint obviously did not pay too much attention during the hubbing process that left us with not 1, but 4 types of pivoted die doubling.

Later on when they started to mint the 2013 they did another run with dies that ended up showing some sort of pivot that happened during the die hubbing process but this time they finally corrected the issue and went on to finally mint the 2014 loonie that I have yet to find with any type of hub doubling.

Now that we have 2012 and 2013 covered those are just the baselines for this theory, this theory does not just apply to the Loonies, this exact same thing happend not only to the 2012 and 2013 loonies, but also the nickels, quarters, dimes and toonies!

This collector also wrote a theory a couple months back showing 4 different 2013 nickel coins showing a different pivot in hub doubling on each. He also found numerous Dimes showing this theory in its full form aswell.

We can all now be sure at this point everyone would like for him to cut to the main point. This theory can be applied to all denominations as far back as 1940 and most likely earlier and almost ALL doubled dies you will find on Canadian coins will most certainly be accompanied by a relative within a 2 year period either before or after the date in question.

    Examples:

    2011 Loonie - NIL
    2011 Nickel - NIL
    2011 Dime - NIL

    2012 Loonie - DDO
    2012 Nickel - DDO
    2012 Dime - DDO

    2013 Loonie - DDO
    2013 Nickel - DDO
    2013 Dime - DDO

    2014 Loonie - NIL
    2014 Nickel - NIL
    2014 Dime - NIL

After the 2 year period of doubled dies there is a random stretch from 3 to 5 years of NIL before another set of DDO / DDR's are found.

We can all understand to some this may sound like a big coincidence however, he having done extensive research and is now at a point where he can almost pinpoint years that I think will have a doubled die and usually end up finding it.

After applying this theory while hunting doubled dies, his collection has drastically doubled, no pun intended.

There is a US seller on eBay with several selling them for $2.50 each.
That should give you an idea on the value. I don’t think the doubling would add much value.
