Jefferson Nickel PCGS Restoration Results

Had a couple of ugly Jefferson Nickels Restored solely to improve appearance, not for any grade improvement and the grades did not change. I'm very happy with the results.

Great results on the second one, the first looks now a bit sterile.

After look much nicer than before, curious what is the approx cost per coin for this without your postage to them?

$38 each without handling and shipping.

Is that the only fee or did you have to pay for a regrade? Also what was the turn around time?

Restoration always includes a regrade at the end. The optional part at that price level is I could have saved $5 for no gold shield.

Have you ever done any conservation yourself?? I have found that Coper/Nickel is easy to work with and the results are generally good. The Silver issues also yield good results. My "recipe" is the one that @Russ perfected and passed along.

The only reason I would say have PCGS do it is to preserve the grade. Sometimes the coin reveals things that hurt the grade, sometimes it also brings out the WOW.

I've done a little but for the reasons Clackamas1 mentioned, I usually don't want to take the risk myself. And I also like to get TVs, so for $10 extra (in this case and on coins under $1000) it's generally worth it IMO to have PCGS do it.

I probably should have clarified what I posted, I wasn't suggesting you should have cracked them out, done it yourself and submitted them.

Now they look like they just came out of a OBW roll rather than an older album +++++
