2025 March Madness

in Sports Talk
It's that time of year again. I like the BB tournament as much as the next person. But there are 2 things that I really dislike and they are the play in games
1) 11 seeds playing against each other - so the loser is an 11 seed that does not make it in but supposedly they are better than the 12, 13, 14, 15 & 16 seeds that do make it in
2) The play in games themselves. Yeah, it's hard for a 16 seed to play against a 1 seed so let's have them do another game first
An added bonus dislike is not having a play in game in each region

remember when the NHL playoffs format was 1 vs 16 ?
you can say it rewards you for coming in 1st by giving you an easy first round . I suppose 16 is rewarded also , give them a punchers chance to take out the 1seed. Sometimes the 1 seed isn't ready to go .
If you work hard and seed high its annoying to lose players to injury in games you are going to win going away though.
The NHL stopped the 1 vs 16 and went to top 4 of each division , I disliked that also but it did lend importance to those 8 division games in the regular season. that was a plus for fans during the overly long season.
NCAA is a different animal though , college sports are suspect to begin with , regular season is not very interesting for most of the fan base.
Fans shouldn't have to put up with shit teams making the playoffs but all these systems are in place to maximize ticket sales and TV money , the fans don't get a say.
I suppose degenerate gamblers don't really care who does what , if they can bet they will tune in to see

Anyone else in a "non-traditional" bracket? I'm in a picks one where you only pick 12 teams. Then your score is determined by taking the seed times number of wins. So if you pick a #1 seed and they win it all you would get 6 points from that team. But if you pick a 12 seed and they win 2 games you'd get 24 points. So the purpose of this is to pick those Cinderalla teams that can get you the most points.
Kind of a boring first day but at least we have all weekend.........
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Clemson and Mizzou losing were pretty big upsets
Go Akron! (Doesn't hurt to wish
)
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Always a good year when Kansas and UNC don't make it to the first weekend.
Kind of another boring round of basketball today. But watching UNC get tattooed was pretty fun.
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Watching any of the traditional powers is always fun.
How did Michigan turn that game around - amazing, outscored Texas A&M 56 - 40 in the 2nd half!
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
A&M forgot how to shoot the ball the last 6 or 7 minutes and gave Michigan a 25-9 run when A&M forgot how to shoot
Wisconsin 2-6 against the SEC since 2007
So out of todays round the lowest seed winners are #10 Arkansas, #6 BYU, and #5 Michigan.
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
After setting a record (undeserved, IMHO) for most teams getting into the tournament, the SEC has also set a record for most teams eliminated the first week. We're at 7 and counting.
A 6 and 5 winning insnt really a big upset. Arkansas at 10 is the only second round winner so far. Colorado State at 12 and New Mexico at 10 are the only other double digit teams left. Baylor is close at 9 and UConn is an 8 and St Marys a 7 but they are all underdogs.
Illinois Kentucky and Oregon Arizona will probably be the best games later today. New Mexico might have the best chance for a big upset but a lot of the games have been pretty boring with the final scores not really reflecting how much the winner dominated
Wisconsin 2-6 against the SEC since 2007
UConn vs Florida was about the best game I've seen so far................
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Maryland wins with a basket at the buzzer.
Terry Bradshaw was AMAZING!!
Ohio State Buckeyes - National Champions
ALL 4 #1 seeds are playing on...........Has there ever been a Final Four of all #1 seeds?
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
2008 is the only year that had all number 1 seeds
Wisconsin 2-6 against the SEC since 2007
I actually had Colorado St beating them in my bracket....
Duke starting to pull away from Arizona - looks pretty strong tonight.
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Texas Tech beating Arkansas by 2 in OT. Refs kind of took over the game at the end unfortunately but most exciting game so far
Wisconsin 2-6 against the SEC since 2007
Dr. J one of only six NCAA men's basketball players to average more than 20 points and 20 rebounds per game
Terry Bradshaw was AMAZING!!
Ohio State Buckeyes - National Champions
Heavy hitters in the Elite 8. 3 - 1 vs 2 seeds with a 1 vs 3 seed. Possible all #1 Final 4.......
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Texas Tech now the "Cinderella" as a 3 seed. All the other teams are a 1 or 2. Houston barely got past Purdue winning at the last second
Wisconsin 2-6 against the SEC since 2007
Purdue should've won that game. They got hosed by the refs.
Terry Bradshaw was AMAZING!!
Ohio State Buckeyes - National Champions
Looks like Florida lucked out and is the 1st #1 seed in the Final 4.
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Duke strong again tonight - 2nd #1 seed to make the Final 4.
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Bama built one hell of a house with all the bricks they threw up. More offensive rebounds, more blocks, more steals, fewer turnovers but everyone forgot how to shoot.
Wisconsin 2-6 against the SEC since 2007
Right - 8 of 32 from 3.
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Duke is clearly the best team this year -- great offense and great defense. They'll be the champs this year.
Were like 35 percent on any shot overall too. Not going to win many games against top teams shooting like that. They did basically everything to win other than actually score
Wisconsin 2-6 against the SEC since 2007
It is definitely more fun when there are some Cinderella teams left...
I think someone said it's been since 2008 since all #1 seeds made the final 4
Houston and Auburn both have a chance to make this happen although I think Tennessee wins today
Um...Yes...GRP actually owns a basketball 🏀🏀🏀

looking like I was not correct on my Tennessee prediction lol
Yeah, no kidding. 20 point lead, 2nd half. Ouch for Tennessee.
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
3 - #1 seeds in - ....................
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Tennessee saw Bamas terrible shooting performance and said hold my beer watch this. Shooting under 30 percent has to be historically bad for an elite 8 game.
Wisconsin 2-6 against the SEC since 2007
2nd time in NCAA history - 4 #1's in the Final 4. Looking forward to Duke - Houston.
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Duke should crush Houston. Houston should've lost against Purdue when the refs bailed them out in the 2nd half.

I agree. Duke's height will be too much for Houston. Duke should dominate (i.e. win by double digits).
All depends if Houston can make the 3 ball. But Duke sure has looked good every game so far.
