This is a NEWP to upgrade my MS66+. Has it probably taken the trip? This arrives for stickering on Monday the 17 so I would like some St. Patrick's day green.

For reference this is a PCGS 66+ CAC

Will it CAC? Shield Nickel edition. PCGS MS67

    No, it won't pass

The lines on the reverse will keep it from passing

I'm seeing the same thing? Are those hairlines? Can't be at 67 right? Do they show up in-hand as they do in this image?

Die polish lines. They would BB it if those were hairlines. The two coins are from the same reverse dies the 66+ is an earlier die state.

I see a lot of strike weakness especially on the lettering at top on the obverse. That along with the lack of luster I would say no cigar.

    Nice, but won’t go higher

I’d vote no just based on the CAC Pop being extremely low for MS67 shields, with only a single one stickered on a $10k+ coin, so the standards are extraordinarily strict at this level. Add the lines+planchet+strike issues and I think it’s a pass.

Nothing is as expensive as free money.

    That makes sense. Thanks.

    Yes, Green CAC

Grading services usually get more on target, unlikely to give a "gratuitous" grade as you get into the superb gem range.

Using that logic, more MS67 and MS68 classic coins would sticker than MS64 and MS65 examples. I’d bet it doesn’t work that way and in fact, might very well be the opposite.

It would be hard to scientifically ascertain that due to previous submissions and crackouts.

Both are both nice coin. I'm not just seeing a cac but then again it's nice to be humble to 👍

Isn’t that on the 66+ coin below?

It is, yes. It’s a little confusing to include two coins in the post. I do notice a slight strike weakness on the numeral “5” on the subject coin, which is the strike issue I referred to in my other comment. I also see a minor planchet issue around 2PM on the obverse, although I’m unsure if that would factor into CAC’s decision at all.
