That's incredible. Looks like it was somebody's album coin.
Nice! Most likely spent from a coin collection... for sure that was not in circulation long.
Yup, look at them steps.

Is this a coin i should think about having graded? It does have some damage so not sure it would be worth it.
Put any damage to the side for a moment moment.
If this wasn't damaged, what would it be worth if slabbed? How much would it cost to get it slabbed?
You should be able to answer both questions, at least in rough terms.
I gotta pencilvainia s proof today at the coffee shop. My mouth almost dropped. It's got minute scratches on in and will end up somewhere. Life is good
Cool, I'd give it an acetone bath though.
I’d like to see that coin.
Absolutely not worth grading but a highly unusual change find and a great album coin. The "green stuff" may have come from being stored in a leather purse for a very long time. It may not have come from a collection.
Ill post tommorow
Was it a #2?
.
I agree - that looks like green "wax" from an old leather wallet.
Unlike verdigris, the green stuff will come off easily using a solvent such as acetone or lacquer thinner.
PS:
Nice change find ! I don't see any actual "damage" on it. It is worth about $4 or $5, I would think.
.
Very cool find!
Must have been a long drive home.
Cool.
this is the proof recieved yesterday,, fwiw
I’ve always liked the way the date looked on the 1938 Jeffersons

Give your 1938 nickle some time, and just maybe, the outlined area's with the greenish hue ( what ever it is ? ) show's it's swan song.
