Uncirculated 1964 Kennedy half dollar

I have researched this coin, looked at the books, PCGS photo grade an believe this coin should grade at 67 + or higher. I could certainly be wrong here, which is why I'm wanting expert advice before I send it out. Thank you

From the not-so-great photos, it does not appear to be anywhere near a 67+

It might not even be UNC.

    I'd say AU at best.

I hope you will spend a great deal of time studying coins, the metal content, the grading system, the varieties of different coins that may affect color/tone or strike even. So much to learn and years to become moderately accomplished at it. I feel this coin is representative of a lack of these abilities. Good luck. Attend some coin shows and study graded coins from various labels, study their luster in various angles in light, Try to master Uncirculated or proof first as that can be far harder than circ coins. Maybe a generous AU50

Definitely UNC, the other comments aren’t accurate. But very unlikely a 67+. Best guess would be 64/65 from the pics.

I agree with it not being uncirculated also. Too much wear in Kennedys hair, too much wear on reverse on arrows, and eagle wings.

It really is hard to tell from the photos, which are sideways and not sharp. But there's nothing there to indicate to me even that this coin is uncirculated, much less very high grade uncirculated.

The obverse looks lightly circulated, maybe an AU50, to me (almost no hair on his head; all of my JFK halves have lots of evident hair). The reverse looks considerably more circulated, to me. But, again, it's hard to tell with the photos.

Just curious, has there ever been a thread like this wherein the OP had an inexpensive coin graded in spite of advice to the contrary - and then followed up with the result?

The kindly old grandmother from a foreign land with poor eyesight actually submitted some details grade memorial cents against the advice of the forum.

  • the grading game on mycollect.com is the best way to learn that I know of. Don't listen to anyone who tells you the grade based on those pictures, they're just too blurry to tell.
