Coins on Heritage are from a Deceased Collector’s Collection

winestevenwinesteven Posts: 4,694 ✭✭✭✭✭

I’m bidding tonight on two coins on Heritage. I saw the other day that they are currently listed in the Registry of a collector, so I messaged the collector, letting him know I’ll be bidding, and asked, as a courtesy, if he could remove his coins from his Registry, now that they are safely with Heritage.

I received a very nice reply from Bill Luebke’s sister, letting me know that he passed away last August. She also let me know that she recently notified Heritage to take care of this (to notify PCGS to remove those coins from Bill’s Registry), and was notified by Heritage that it may take a few days. Separately, she said that the family appreciates us bidding on Bill’s coins.

@MFeld and @SetRegistryManager (or @SetRegistryOfficial ), please be aware of this situation.

Thanks.

Steve

Thank you, Steve - I’m working on getting this resolved.

I’ve been in touch with @MFeld , and he’s been in touch with the key people at Heritage. Unfortunately to no surprise, despite efforts by Heritage to get PCGS to work with them to remove each of these certs from Bill’s Registry, Heritage has been left with the impression that this action will not occur in any timely manner, and each collector will be left to having to deal with PCGS on their own with notification, 3 day wait, dated “ransom” photos, uploading, etc. (my words).

Bill’s sister really was hoping her effort would help collectors, but apparently that’s not going to happen.

Steve, I'm glad you looked into this as we talked about it the other night.
I will not be bidding in tonight's auction, I just really don't need the headache of trying to get PCGS to remove the cert from the registry. The last one took PCGS 2-1/2 weeks to remove.
As I've said before in other threads, I will not buy or bid on any coins that are currently in someone's registry and have told sellers, including auction houses that, but it's fallen on deaf ears. I guess when it starts to affect the bottom line maybe some action will be taken, until then no buying or bids from me.
    Thanks for posting

Maybe message them again and explain the process to Bill's sister explaining how to retire the sets. They must have access to his computer if they got the message.

Thanks for the good suggestion, but I’m not comfortable doing that.

I’m appreciative that after having received my message, she made the sincere effort to have Heritage deal with this with PCGS. Unfortunately, like us, Heritage is banging their head against the wall in having PCGS, the ultimate responsible party to the collectors who now own the coins, deal with this in a manner to minimize extra effort by each and every collector!

Just because one person or company can’t dictate the actions of another, doesn’t mean that what you’ve told them has fallen on deaf ears.

I believe that a person or company CAN dictate the actions of others. Simply by asking them to remove the coin from any registry that the coin might be in BEFORE they wll accept it for sale or auction, period!

Many sellers (understandably) don’t want their coins removed from registries before they’re actually sold. Individual sellers, as well as auction companies, typically try to balance the interests of both those they acquire from and those they sell to. There’s no solution - simple or otherwise - that makes everyone happy.

Maybe not, but if it continues this way they will all see a reduction in sales and bids. I didn't bid on 2 coins tonight on Heritage because the certs were in the registry, (see winesteven thread) Were they millions of dollar coins, NO, but still lost a potential bidder because of this.
Like I've said before, I will not be a buyer so it's up to the sellers and auctions to try and resolve the issue.

Gee ... not bidding on a coin because it is still registered! Interesting approcach but not sure I understand why.

I never had an issue ... I send in request & attached the obverse and reverse quick photo using my cell phone and 3 days later it is in my registry.

I will have to do it again when I receive my Heritage lots as one was still in the Bob Simpson registry from 5 years ago and the previous owners never seemed to have it removed.

In the past, that actually worked. Many users get errors trying to send that request, and are forced to resort to email, and having to wait weeks or MONTHS for anybody within the registry staff to actually notice or be bothered to do anything about it. When people are buying coins SPECIFICALLY to put in their registry, and there are well-known stumbling blocks preventing those coins from being added, well, it absolutely makes sense to try to look elsewhere for the coins they need.

Funny looking back though, in the past there'd been a LOT of pushback about those three DAYS being excessive... Man, what we'd all give to go back to that level of service :/

A lot has changed and not for the better I hope that your wins get removed soon but I believe it will take a lot longer than you think
I don't bid on coins that are registered in sets because I don't want to relay on someone else to have to remove it, that simple
You do it your way I'll do it my way,

I have tried uploading in the web, but haven't figured out how to upload 2 files. I guess I need to merge the obverse and reverse pics into one file.

My worse 'in a set' purchase took over 6 months before I could get customer service tell me NO. It had been reported as stolen and return to where I had purchased for a refund. I had bought it on eBay and seller did refund me when they got coin back.

Now when I bid on a coin 'in a set', I lower my max bid to overcome the added pain in the rear for removal.

I never buy from/through ebay ... good luck with that.

When you try to register a coin that is already registered you need to send the removalrequest. After you send the request go to your Registry home page, on the left site you will see additon menu item and look for "ACTIVITY". Click on that and you should see your activity and one will be a box labeled "REMOVAL REQUESTS SENT"

When you click on your open request you can then upload 2 ( Not One combined) images. It will not not accept just one image ...must be full slab views Obv and Rev .

    good luck

All I can say over the years ( including 3 months back) I never really had a problem ... just one time it was not accepting a photo - I guess it was the size but I made it a smaller JEP and it worked. We will see how my next request works

Good luck 'you all' ... I prefer the NGC Custom registry sets in any case. They permit both NGC and PCGS and I have started to use the MYCOLLECTION more and more
