I recently ordered a $12 book on eBay - it included a tracking number so I followed it. It made it from Minnesota to Charlotte, NC in a few days, went on to Greenville, SC and then BACK to Charlotte, NC where it sat for a few days, and then back to Greenville, SC, and, a couple days later, made it to my mailbox.

These things didn't happen 20 or 30 or 40 years ago, I'm sorry.

You mean like the letter that was delivered in 2008 after 89 years? Or the mall that burned up on the Hindenburg? Or the mall lost on the Titanic? Or my friends father who was fired from USPS in the 1980s for throwing mall in a dumpster rather than delivering it?

I have seen no evidence that lost or damaged mall has become more common. Do you have a reference?

True. These confusing online tracking details did not happen decades ago. :)

I don’t understand why you’re talking about malls so much.

Just to see if we are paying attention in class.😀

Strangest misdirection I’ve experienced was on the receiving end. Coin was sent across the country, made it to the second sorting hub in Dallas (my city). Usually out for delivery from the local PO the next day. But, next day it shows up in Indianapolis. Only time that has happened. Did make it back to Dallas. I get more nervous as a receiver generally than as a sender - I have insurance.

My package has been in Indianapolis since March 2nd.

Just received an email notice from the USPS that a package will be delivered today requiring a signature. Services like this did not exist until fairly recently.

I recently ordered some record supplies on Ebay. The seller was in Madison, WI, which is 245 miles from my location in Cumberland, WI. The package went to Oak Creek, WI---St. Paul, MN----Chicago, IL---Des Moines, IA----St. Paul, MN---Eau Claire, WI---Cumberland, WI. A 245 mile hop, skip & a jump became a 1540+ mile odyssey that took two weeks. :s

My latest registered mail package from CACG took 19 days to get to me once in possession at USPS. That is fairly normal travel time, with lots of breaks at the big processing centers. More than a month, then perhaps time to make an inquiry. But these can move slow, many factors, no need to panic even at 3 weeks………….

@Morgan13 No update available for the disaster? Is it safe to assume, that since you are ignoring the request for an update, that all is well and it just took a few extra days?

Threads like this (and news stories and social media) are why every time there is a shipping issue, some people are happy to leap up and claim that the world is falling apart, the USPS is inept and corrupt, FedEx/UPS are awful, some states are havens for crime, packages are being stolen at an unprecedented clip, etc etc.

Sometimes packages are lost or stolen or damaged or delayed. It is a vanishingly tiny percentage of all packages.

I'm sorry for not leaving an update. I did not realize I left anyone hanging.
The package sat for 6 days at that facility. I called customer service and a few days later the package shipped out to the correct address.
Crazy way to do things. The residence is only an hour away.
An uneventful resolution to what could have been a $1600 loss for me.

Glad to read that all is well.

Shipping Registered has caused me stress on a number of occasions. After having no movement for 5 days the buyer e-mailed me that I need to call the PO to find out where this coin was. After one more day the buyer saw the coin had moved to Jamaica and was mortified believing the coin was shipped out of the country. I explained, it's in Jamaica NY and he was relieved.
