My winter 2025 Long Beach (last?) report

Made an almost last minute booking to head for the Long Beach show, since I heard it could be the last one. I've been attending off and on since 2001 and will be sad to see it go. As a collector, me and my wife have always found a good time hanging out in Long Beach, be it visiting the aquarium, staying at the Queen Mary or just being outdoors in the sunshine. I'm hoping some sort of nice size show can pop up from the ashes. I think the year they moved the show from the main convention hall to the back alley was the beginning of the slide.
For me the show was great for finding coins for my collection. I also consigned 21 coins to Great Collections, which should show up soon. Most of the dealers I talked to were having a good to great show, while others were saying it was slow. I ran into quite a few of the Instagram folks on the floor or at the tables. My most memorable encounter at the show was a father (Rob) and his young son (Bryce) buying and selling coins. Not just any coins, but 4 and 5 figure coins! The real kicker was that Bryce is only 11 years old! After talking to him, it was very obvious that he's done his homework and was very knowledgeable. I heard that Doug Winter is one of his mentors, one of the best in the business. There is another generation of collectors coming in for sure, and Bryce is definitely a shining star. You will not find this generation on the forums or selling at B&M's.
The coins I added to my collection are below, and the 1853 half is a coin I bought from Bryce. Managed to find some really cool toned Mexican coins, including a monster toned 1984 Libertad in MS-68. Hoping for another big SoCal show in the future!

Thanks for your report. I also attended this what might be the last LB show. Always enjoyed this one & luckily I had a great show if it’s indeed the last one. Nice purchases!

Thanks for the show report EF. Bryce sells coins, Rob sells wine. And it is quite good…………...
Is the prevailing opinion that this was the last February Long Beach? If so, SOMEBODY is being too cute by half. Every “official” word reads as though the idea is to keep the February show alive. I also note, with admitted east coast bias, that Baltimore, so far, is managing to still host three shows. It’s not hard to expose my anti west coast bias, after all. Getting from the Gulf (of America) states to the cities west of the Rockies is OBSCENELY expensive. London, Paris, and Berlin are cheaper airfares from here, and the hotels are better and about half the price.
