Guardians owner Larry Dolan dies at 94

“Cleveland sadly lost one of their own last night,” said Bob DiBiasio, Guardians SVP/Public Affairs. “Mr. Dolan invested his entire life in Greater Cleveland and impacted our community on so many levels. From his service to our country as a First Lieutenant in the United States Marines, his many philanthropic acts of kindness, career in law, business, education, and sports, many benefited from his engagement, influence, and passion. Especially in the world of sports. We are forever grateful for his passion in supporting the Northeast Ohio community and our franchise; through his initial leadership the Dolan family continues to be the longest tenured owners in franchise history.”

RIP
Rip. We went to an Indians game 15 years ago and took the stadium tour. Nice stadium.
I didnt realize he was that old. Im honestly shocked he didnt open up the check book to try and win it all at the end of his life. Usually the really old owners will stop caring about profits and just want to win a championship or try too

I think when he had Nick Swisher and Michael Bourn sign 4 year deals with the Indians for a combined $106 Million in 2013 and got absolutely nothing out of it except headaches that closed up Dolans wallet for good.

Larry Dolan was a true gentleman who loved his family, his hometown, his country, his team and his fanbase. When Dick Jacobs took over the franchise in the 1980's from the O'Neill family he started a revolution of baseball in Cleveland, the Dolan family carried on with that in a fine way. I'm sure Paul Dolan will do OK.
RIP.
Im referring to him strictly as an owner, once he took over the Cleveland payrolls were at the bottom of the league pretty much every year even though when theyre good the stadium sells out all the time.
I guess maybe the kids or advisors were running the team at the end giving how old he was, but that just really surprised me. Im sure Im forgetting some but the Padres, Nats and Tigers all opened up the check book at the end
