Alabama baseball team flipping the bird is one of the most disgraceful unsportsmanlike acts ever
https://x.com/SECUnfiltered/status/1893775413836472773
I don't know why this Riley Quick guy is being singled out and only he is doing the apology when they ALL should be (not that I'd be buying it; they are clearly NOT at all sorry in that pic, they're only "sorry" because they are getting called out on it). Did they ever stop to think about how it'd be if youth or Little League players starting doing this crap? I especially feel bad for all their teammates who thankfully had the common sense and decency to not go along with this and potentially got ostracized by their flipping the bird teammates.
Back in 1998 and 1999 I was student manager for my HS baseball team and you bet our head coach would NEVER stand for any of this kind of crap. Even if you were a superstar, a future big leaguer, you'd be GONE, OFF THE TEAM on the spot.

I think what the team did was fine. Give em the bird. Who cares? People who define their life by how offended they can be. Quick is being singled out because he was the one who shared the picture from the locker room. That is why Quick is apologizing. Had this happened at a game in front of fans, then sure, offensive and consider your audience, etc. Putting it on snapchat... I don't see the significance there. If you're easily offended, stay off social media and have some hot cocoa.
Suppose you had a kid playing Little League or youth league or high school and he/she and some of his/her teammates did this? I DOUBT you would still be saying the above with a straight face.

I wouldn't because the scenario is different.
In this case, I don't think it's really valid for anyone outside of the team, it's fans, school athletic dept., to find this offensive or inappropriate.
Again, this was the team in the locker room, and one player took a picture and posted it. So is it OK for the team to do this? Is it OK for it to be photographed, Is it OK for it to be disseminated? I think this is something the coach could decide to deal with, but I think the team doing this in the locker room is not a big deal. Taking the photo? meh. Putting it on social media? Stupid.
Well YES! That's the reason we even know about this at all! That's why I (the one you called "easily offended") had such a big problem with it and I mentioned it here because you and I both know there are youngsters out there playing baseball that will see this and well, get the wrong idea and try to copy/imitate it. Not to mention how I have no doubt the other teammates (the ones who had the decency to not go along with this) were beyond embarrassed and ashamed of these guys and what they did. This is not at all what baseball is about.

Rumor is the other team was talking trash most of the game, especially after taking a big lead.
Maybe they should have kept quiet and just played ball.
Maybe both benches should have cleared and fought on the field like the pros do.
That'll teach them younguns how to act.......................I was 5 or 6 when I shot my first one.
I think it's hilarious
If you step into the trash talking octagon expect repercussions 🤷
I didn't say that you were easily offended.
I think there are worse dangers on social media than a picture of college athletes giving the ol' middle finger salute to an opponent.
Guess I don't have to take any responsibility for my kids anymore because the internet has that covered... so long as we can prevent student-athletes from flippin' the bird.
As far as I'm concerned this is being blown out of proportion.
I'm old enough to remember this, and truthfully, I've never been the same.

.
.
And who can ever forget ol' Joe Cool wearing this shirt in the locker room. I've edited it out, lest anyone faint, but it says "Forty-F***in'-Niners".
.
I've got the vapors...
I am clutching my pearls as we speak...
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
I absolutely love it. If you dont want the other team mocking you or celebrating dont let them beat you. Its a competition not a social gathering
This is actually pretty tame for SEC baseball. You had Tennessee guys giving the bird to the outfielders as they rounded the bases
I love passion in sports and college especially baseball and getting away from the dont hurt the other teams feelings because youre beating them.

Your exact words were "If you're easily offended, stay off social media and have some hot cocoa." I guess I must be in the minority here but all I am saying is, for THIS particular circumstance, especially the way they did it and how they went out of their way to look like a bunch of classless thugs, these guys collectively did cross the line.
I mean, is basic sportsmanship and (as Coach Carter would say) showing class and acting like a champion really honest to goodness that absurd of a thing to ask? (at 2:05):

In that context I meant it in the 3rd person. Like for anyone who’s to be offended avoid social media. Offending people is engagement for many.
As far as what I try to instill in my kids - especially my little men - and what I think deserves to be trolled by the media… those are distinct.
If it was my kids I would be disappointed and they would know it. But those are not my kids. It’s distasteful perhaps but it’s not deserving of anyone’s attention as far as I’m concerned.
But they're somebody's kids. Don't they have a ma and/or pa too? And for further clarification for some of the examples others have shown in this thread, if it's just one individual, then that's on them as an individual...but in the OP's case, this was at least half the entire team (and again, I feel really sorry for the others who had the decency to not go along with this and must've felt so embarrassed and ashamed to be on a team like that) and doing so in such a cocky and, do I dare say, "toxic masculinity" sort of way?
And it was THEIR fault and THEIR choice to bring it to the attention of all the social media world.

It could just be that I’m unable to become outraged by anything anymore.
They could have just won the game and it wouldnt have happened. Bama was down 10 nothing and hit a 3 run walk off to win 12-10
Dont lose the game and they cant do it.
Bat flips 100 feet in the air, turn over chains, dunking on small hoops, spiking the ball, throwing it in the stands I love all of it.
Be excited make it exciting to watch the game

That reminds me, you know how in baseball if a pitcher thinks a batter/runner goes too far in showboating they hit him or the next batter in retaliation? I do honestly wonder if some players actually don't mind that...I mean I reckon getting hit with a near 100 mph fastball in the butt (I think etiquette indicates that is where you hit the batter if done on purpose) is no fun and hurts like hell but hey, at least you get on base again!

I got hit in the back of the head and broken wrist but i dont think it was intentional, some just cant control what they throw.
Personally I like the Bauer and Tatis where you can get me and I can get you back with the celebrations.
I dont love the trying to hurt someone and really think the celebrations should just be entertaining.
I like the sport much better if guys can go back and forth with celebrations and it looks bad but they both have the respect and get that if you talk trash or do it it will come back on you too if you lose
Wisconsin 2-6 against the SEC since 2007
I meant if the pitcher is hitting the batter intentionally in realitation they're supposed to hit them in the buttock where it would hurt the least as with all we've learned recently about concussions in baseball and football, you just don't aim for the head. And as Juan Marichal had to learn the hard way, you just don't charge the mound with a bat in hand.

For sure. I dont like the throwing at the head stuff at all. Just get the guy the next time and if either wants to celebrate do so

It is, after all, Alabama!!
I do agree with the sentiment that if you talk trash you should be able to back it up or pay the consequences. Those OSU players are probably not enjoying their crow.
