Are slabs with old PSA labels valued less?

All of my PSA 9's and 10's are vintage cards of mostly 1970's baseball (some football) of various star players and were graded around 20 years ago with the older-style holders which don't have new logo at the top (PSA "lighthouse logo" I think it's called). While the new holders look more modern is it worth the trouble (time and cost) switching all of them to the newer holders. Personally I lean towards no. A PSA 10 is a PSA 10 (at least I assume that's still the case) and if it ain't broke don't fix it. -thanks

Of course buyers will try to get them discounted, as a seller at some point it may be a fact. But if your card is accurately or undergraded like so many PSA cards, you will get your price.
Used Best Offer and purchased this one for $363.00........with E-Bays authentication of Psa cards
selling over $250.00 .......card gets a stamp of approval without that new label ! I will leave it in the
Psa sleeve as further proof ! I don't care what Psa label the card resides in , as long as it has great eye appeal
and centered with nice corners at a reasonable price , I will bid on it !

Rule of thumb buy the card not the case. I would never buy a card I thought was over graded despite the case.
However, I believe grading has been stricter and I am a tad wary about older cases. At this point I am buying mostly newer PSA cases with the lighthouse logo.
The brand-new PSA cases are awesome. Great upgrade.

I too don't care what label is in a holder. It's all about the card. Many pack fresh cards were graded 20 years ago when vintage unopened was much more plentiful than today. Though grading is generally stricter today, I also find it much more inconsistent for vintage cards. I see many head scratchers in new holders these days. I also see many mint looking cards in PSA 8 holders with new labels. Again, buy the card, not the label style.
It probably depends on the card and the level of scarcity. Prices being equal you would probably want a 89 Upper Deck Griffey in a new holder if the price is the same, maybe even pay a little bit more in a nice new holder. Plus cards are considered to be scrutinized more now then prior.
Do they regrade when you reholder from an old holder to a new one or is it a direct transfer?
They do not regrade.

what is a 'slab' ?
"Are slabs with old PSA labels valued less?"
At a local show recently this discussion came up and the near unanimous option was yes. More specifically older slabs were scrutinized more of the time than 7x,8x,9,10x series and the older slabs more times than not required a discount to move.
I always believe in purchasing the card not the flip but sadly the buyers who represent the lifeblood of the hobby rarely do that.

If this was true- older slabs being worth less- why would a dude with a great vintage raw collection ever submit his cards to PSA unless he wanted to sell his collection.
It would only make sense to have the collection graded right before he put them up for sale. Otherwise the cards he grades in 2025 will be worth less ten years later compared to if he had them graded in 2035.
Bottom line: An accurately graded card should sell for about the same regardless of when it was graded.
That is what they lay your dead body on in the morgue.
Yes, if you believe standards have never changed. The huge majority of 1971 PSA 10s were graded over 15 years ago, so the belief that grading was not as tight back then does have some foundation.
When it comes to centering, I see some older slab cards that I do not think meet today's standards. I have been working on the 1963 Fleer baseball set in PSA 9. There are several PSA 9 cards on ebay that I could use. They are in older slabs. Some are just fine but some of the others I feel are too off center to be a 9 and I do not think they would get a 9 by today's standards. That is just my opinion and I will not buy cards in older slabs unless I feel they meet the current criteria.
