Get them certified. Consign to Heritage.

Consign them raw to Stacks. Have them certify the collection with their discounted auction rate fees.

  • Great Collections appears to have weekly World Coin auctions and I think their sellers' commission is lower than Heritage......but yeah, they'll need to get certified first. I'm sure Heritage, Stacks and GC can assist in both grading and selling..

Just to zag a bit, I don't think that getting them certified is an expense that needs to be paid. Glancing at the surfaces, it doesn't seem like there would be a plethora of high numeric grades. I think a US auction house with predominantly American buyers would not get the best prices.

I would consign raw to a euro auction house (CGB, Kunker, Sincona, maybe Katz).

Zagging further, I would call CNG and talk with them. I don’t think submitting most of these will produce the highest net. Good luck with the sale.

Looking at the coins I agree that sending raw to CNG is the best.

I do like the Edward VII pattern. That is likely worth submitting depending on how it looks in hand.

That would have been another suggestion I could have made, the only reason I didn’t is because I wasn’t sure how they’d do with this kind of material. For Spanish colonial, Stacks is my jam.

Agree the Edward VII pattern is nice.

I like the Teutonic 2 taler, too.

I agree that that these coins don’t need to be certified. All things considered, I’d recommend auctioning with these guys: https://numismaticauctionsllc.com/

Lots of solid advice already offered. If you already have a number in mind for some of them, give them a short run on the forum BST. The 2 taler Teutonic Order is a good candidate for grading.

If you can get a copy of the Canadian Numismatic journal for Jan/Feb '25, there's a large ad for "Carsley Whetstone & Co" who are looking to buy European coins from 800 - 1850. They have a website www.CARSLEYS.com. The ad says that they are looking for raw original coins better quality EF or better, individual or collections.
