Anyone else holding on to gold to sell after $3000?

BochimanBochiman Posts: 25,494 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have some pre-33 ($10/$20) and some modern commems that are 1oz, that I am waiting until the $3000 mark. All are slabbed, premiums are low, but for some reason that $3000 mark just seems right...

Anyone else waiting?

    Close enough?

I’m liking the $3,000 mark, but I’m holding my gold. No intentions of selling it. I sold most of my modern gold eagles and buffalos a few years ago to fund my daughters college tuition. Kept all of my pre-33 gold.

I am selling a huge chunk right now. I am not going to worry if it is over $3k, it is close enough. I am bullish on the economy so this is all going to QQQ. If we can cut $1T from the budget it will be big.

    Nope.
Why set a goal and then purposefully pull up short?

Greedy? Sure. But, I'm not in a hurry to sell, nor a need. Helping my aunt on some of these and her husband, RIP, had gotten ripped off on the prices. At $3000, it will be almost a breakeven on them, so, I set it as a goal.
She isn't in a hurry for the funds at this point either, so we are just waiting.

    I own this batch @$1300.

  • If you decide to sell and you are not in need of the money you need to have a plan. Think about what you are going to invest in that is better than physical gold. If your plan is to stick the money in the bank or get 4.5% on a CD I would rather hold the gold. I myself do buy and sell some gold but mainly I am stacking even at this price. I do believe gold will surpass the $3000 mark for you.
    Best of luck,
    Tim

I think $3K is a psychological wall at least for the short term. Everyone else is waiting for that as well. If you are considering selling and have a plan for the money, I'd sell now.

I’m holding and will continue to add whenever I see a great deal. If Bitcoin is worth $95,000 per coin then gold should be over $5000 per ounce (jmho). Need to get rid of paper metals and let supply and demand set prices. Will continue to hold.

When i go deer hunting my goal is to harvest a buck. Many times I pass up the shot as knowing I could have easily accomplished my goal is more fulfilling than actually doing so.

I appreciate the comments and I notice how people really don't answer my simple question but, instead, like to give THEIR own opinions on what I should do :D

Very simply, I stated what I was doing and just asked if anyone else had the same mark. Well, I thought it was simple.
Instead, I get reasons to sell now, or keep longer, or blah blah blah.
I didn't ask those questions though. I am also very secure in my finances and knowledgeable enough to know how to handle any investment to best suit my needs and not sit in a 1% bank account. Hell, most of the gold I'll be selling I had already stated who it belonged to (my aunt) and why I like that target mark for her. She is also to the point where she can decide how best to use the funds.

Anyways, it's always interesting when posting stuff here, still, I guess

Holding and not selling… not bullish on the economy. Seems a slight reorganization of the letters with the addition of a t sums it up.

I started selling about 1/4 of my gold at $2,750. I just sold 1/4 more between $2,800 and $2,900. As it is sitting around $2,950, I am waiting to sell, as the last half is more a long term hold to see what happens. There is going to be a short-term top sometime and I expect a 5-10% correction or consolidation phase maybe when stocks fall, and risk is off for a spell.

Most all the gains from $2,000 to $2,950 have only happened the past year. That is a huge 50% up move. I did not want to miss out on at least some of it by waiting too long.

Those who wait for 3k, might not actually realize that much more as more and more supply is hitting the market, Some major players that I know as well as others who do business with have backed way off on lots of stuff : world gold, raw pre 33 etc. One really big major player I called to unload a decent amount of pre 33 told me they would not even quote a price on raw, only cert pre 33.

I am holding on to my gold but am commencing an orderly sale of my silver - just too bulky in quantity.

So basically it is like junk silver coins which is way back of spot.

My hope is not to need it and give it to my daughter. I have a life pension she will not she might find it useful and has plenty of time to learn how to benefit without letting the local shop screw her over.

No, I said $3,000 by 2030 when gold was $1,100. And in the last few years, I've said $5,000 by 2035.

If gold goes down a few hundred dollars, I'll hopefully add. So no, I won't be selling anything.

My hunch is a good buying opportunity in the $2500-$2600 range this year before busting through $3k and leaving it in the dust. I've also got a hunch under my shirt, on my left shoulder. ;)

shopped a little gold at a show . I stuck a few 1/10oz eagles in my pocket and 2 decent sized wedding bands.

terrible offers , no interest in the rings but i was told to visit their B & M during the week. which is fine, jewelry is not a good buy in that environment .
I was offered 250 for a 1989 1/10 in OGP same dealer selling tenths for 360 ! I commented on the spread being a bit wide but whatever

that being said I bought circulated morgans for 28 each and they were all VF or better pre 1921 coins. I have no trouble moving those for 35 each at my store seemed a no brainer .

lots of slabbed modern dreck in one guys case . I asked the guy if he might be a buyer of the 2 5 coin sets of 2011 ASE's I have been thinking of selling he said no . APMEX optimistically lists those for 650

I saw slabbed gold dreck too , who in their right mind is slabbing ex jewelry coins? where does stuff like that even originate ? We are not talking rare dates just common damaged coins

The reason it's heading to $3,000 is the same reason it's heading to $5,000. I'd sell anything that has a whiff of a numismatic before I sold bullion. The underlying support for gold at these levels has never been stronger in our lifetime.

If you bought $1000 Bitcoin in 2009 you would have $103 BILLION (I saw that before the recent downturn) if humans can do that there’s plenty of room for humans to throw more $$$$$ at gold.

I think the value would be around $250million, still a huge gain.
