5 cent shield nickels

I found some shield nickels in my garage. I know nothing about coin collecting. How much can I expect to get for them if I tried to sell them at a coin show? If the dates are clearly seen how much does a common shield nickel sell for in very good to fine condition?

I plan on going to the Long Beach Expo this week to drop off some baseball cards with PSA and was hoping to sell the nickels but if I'm wasting my time and there won't be any demand for them I would rather not embarrass myself.

All responses appreciated.

Why not post pictures? It is impossible to say how much you can expect without knowing dates or conditions.

Spring National Battlefield Coin Show is April 3-5, 2025 at the Eisenhower Hotel Ballroom, Gettysburg, PA. WWW.AmericasCoinShows.com

Coins are in the garage and it will take me time to get them. I'm not asking for an exact price just a ball park idea for what an average coin sells for. The dates are easily seen and the coins are in a holder that says VG-Fine VG fine fine and fine. For argument sake lets say the grades are accurate.

Bottom line I'm just trying to figure out if I bring 4 of these to the coin show what type of money am I looking at? $5 each? $10 each? $20 each? If this is still not enough to give a ball park price please let me know and I will post them tonight when I get home.

The dates would also be a big help.
In the unlikely event you have an 1880 in Fine, it could be well over $1000. The more likely common dates in VG to fine without any problems would be $20 or so, as an estimate.

If these are common dates I think you would likely get offers of $5-$7 from a dealer, you might be able to sell them on ebay for perhaps as much as $20. But a dealer may not have buyers for low grade common shield nickels so if he thinks he will have to hold them a long time he won't be willing to offer much.

There are some interesting overdates and some low mintage rare dates, that is why photos would help.

You may be able to sell them here before the show.
