Registered shipment

I shipped out a registered parcel from the NY area a couple weeks ago. It's going to Arkansas in the western part in the national forest town. It took around a week to get to JFK, then some more days to get to Memphis and Little Rock where it showed as "processing", is this normal?

Yup, I once purchased a large quantity of PM and it took two weeks to get to me from NY. Registered mail has to be signed for by anyone who gets it's custody on the journey. I once had a registered from the UK take eight weeks.
I would not stress it give it another 5-10 days. I have purchased and sold so many items (dvd's, video games, collectibles and on and on) over the last 20+ years and only once an package got damaged and the seller refunded the money (less than 100$ in this case).
A few packages (maybe 10 max in my entire life) caused me stress but in the end all was OK. Ten out of maybe 1000+ packages during all those years. Like I said even the damaged coin arrived to me that one was not lost or stolen just damaged.

start a claim as soon as eligible, sometimes triggers movement when questions start getting asked. Was just told today that one that has shown no movement for 3 weeks will be going to the "processing" department for return to sender. That will take two weeks they say. Ebay buyer had an invalid shipping address.

Very normal. If your package remains in one location for an extended period, your postmaster can call to help get it moving.
I contacted the Missouri usps customer service people and they gave me their 877 number which I finds hard to get through to someone with.
You have two on-line options at usps.com
(1) start a search for missing mail
(2) file a claim for lost mail
Start with (1) wait a week then (2)

I did that yesterday, and got this response: "Your item is currently traveling within the Postal network.
"Based on tracking information, this item is not eligible for a service request since it has been more than 14 days since the date of mailing."
Registered mail is very slow. It is much safer. Registered mail rarely gets lost or stolen. I got this online.
" While there isn't a strict "time limit" on USPS registered mail in terms of delivery days, it is considered a highly secure service with a slower delivery time due to its manual processing, meaning there is no set estimated delivery time and it can take significantly longer to arrive compared to regular mail; therefore, if speed is important, registered mail is not recommended. "
Starting a search for lost mail with USPS is not worth your time.
Best of Luck,
Tim
Filing the lost mail search resulted in a recognition of that within the usps quality control system and it was delivered the next day.
I'm glad to hear you received your item. Cool.
I just sent something for a Heritage Auction to Mark Feld. It was during a "snowpocalypse" in my area (which meant about 1 inch of snow) and most of the staff at the local USPS in my town had "called in". There was 1 person working the counter, and he wasn't a regular at the counter. So, instead of in and out same day, it took at least 2 days for it to leave to go to the Seattle hub.
From there, it went over the weekend to Houston...and then sat and sat and sat for a few days. Then onwards to Dallas and then Mark.
What usually has taken me 3-4 days, even registered, took around a week.
The thing I learned long ago, and kept reminding myself, is that: registered mail is very secure and has to be signed for each step of the way. When it is out of possession of whoever signed for it, it goes in a safe in that location and is signed into the safe. Someone is always held accountable. If the person forgets, or isn't in for some reason, and no one else steps up that can, it will sit and wait.
That is likely what happened to yours. Someone forgot/was out, other people didn't know or ignored it. You filled out the form, it prompted someone to look, and they took care of it.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Note that when shipping bullion using USPS, you are eligible for insurance coverage only with registered mail. I believe that any other method of shipment or carrier requires self-insurance or third party insurance.

Not at my Post Office,,,,,,, every time that I ask about a package that has been sitting at one particular Post Office for 2 or more weeks all I am is told is "nothing that I can do about it"
I just got my submission back from QA Check,,,,, Registered Mail took 3 weeks to get there and it took only 2 days to come home. Of course QA uses private insurance.
