Shield Nickel Experts- Has This 1866 DDO Been Listed?
![cmerlo1](https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads/userpics/122/nBX90Z2AHRZHP.jpg)
I picked this up at a show recently and submitted to ANACS for grading, requesting research on the variety. It has a nice retained cud on the date, and a fairly strong DDO as well. I was unable to find it on shieldnickels.net or in the Cherrypicker's Guide, and ANACS attributed it as 'Retained Cud and DDO TM-SNC-1866-15'. So, they attributed the retained cud, but not the DDO, which usually means they acknowledge it has a DDO, but they were unable to attribute it via one of the preferred references.
Does anyone have an attribution for the DDO, or is this potentially a new discovery? Thanks for any help you can provide.

I like that retained cud at the date.
You could try sending an email to Howard Spindel howard@sci1.com .
He hasn't visited this forum for about 2 years, but he updated his website shieldnickels.net in July 2024.
His Shield Nickel Viewer software includes a lot of varieties, and only a few are pictured on his website.
Some years ago, I tried the free trial version.
Apparently the full version does not have a fixed price, which I thought was unusual.
This DDO variety is listed as S1-1002 in the Shield Nickel Viewer.
However, the retained cud over the date is a later die state that is not yet listed, so I'm sure Howard would welcome an email about it as @yosclimber said.
The price of the Shield Nickel Viewer is not listed on the website, but was $70 when I purchased it about a year ago. Also, you have to contact Howard by email to purchase it. It's a terrific resource; I highly recommend it!
Thanks, everyone! I'll reach out to Howard Spindel and send him the images, and see about getting the full version of the Shield Nickel Viewer.
Cool coin, especially the retained cud at the date!
