Who would you send a bunch of raw foreign coins to, to be sold

mdwoodsmdwoods Posts: 5,549 ✭✭✭

A friend of mine brought over a bunch of US and foreign coins. I sold the US coins, 90% silver but I don't know what to do with the foreign coins. Most are probably not worth much but I think a few are silver. And recommendations for who make take these on consignment?

Could you share some pics of the collection? I’d be interested in any world silver coins in the collection.

Depending on what "not worth much" means (at least a few dollars per coin but maybe not $50 or $100, or will they end up in one of those bins where coins are sold by the pound?) one option could be to pull out the silver and donate the rest to a local YN program. Obviously there are financial considerations if some amount of money is on the table, but if the non-silver has particularly low numismatic value, a bunch of kids having their interest piqued with a few freebies may be worth more than a dealer could pay, especially if it's a heavy lot that needs to be shipped.

Other than the silver, and possibly Swiss Francs, I would guess there is not much value. But as said before, we need pictures to give you a good assessment...

I second Justin. Not sure if he would want to deal with the collection (need pics) based on value, however, he is a great resource and I’ve always had a good interaction with him, both in person and online.

Thanks for the kind words Gene and Dave!

Best way to sell such lot would depend on the value- If it's common base metal world material it generally sells by the pound, better material would obviously sell much better. Feel free to reach out to us via email if you had any questions, would be happy to give you a rough idea of if there is anything better in the group
