Probstein raw 1973 OPC Schmidt sold for $1,025

Hard to believe this card sold for so much. A really nice SGC 6.5 that looked superior to it sold just two weeks ago for $532.

(couldn't get the link going for the raw and the SGC 6.5)

the grading on the OPC cards has become very strict. Unless you have money to burn to get the cards straight out of the pack, 8's are about the best you can get.

Work hard and you will succeed!!

That large NJ seller may very well have more manipulated auctions than ones that are legit.

I never use any sales results from that seller as valid data points

I was intrigued by that card actually. There were 3 bidders above $142. Well, I was intrigued up until about $350 and then I just watched. I always read it as "3 butts".

Yeah, but the SGC 6.5 was really nice looking. I thought I made a decent run at it and was a good $100 short. To a raw one that was not as nice go for twice the amount, maybe folks are right about manipulation.

It's all about the gamble, everyone wants to hit the homerun on a raw card.

I used to think that way until my bad streak of raw Jerry Rice Rookies that always came back PSA 8 or lower.

Successful coin BST transactions with Gerard and segoja.

Successful card BST transactions with cbcnow, brogurt, gstarling, Bravesfan 007, and rajah 424.

I was watching that card too. It was nice and couldn't get any more centered.
A half hour earlier a pretty nice SGC6.5 Topps sold for $321, so I was curious what the OPC would go for.
The Topps sold for 15% above recent average for PSAs, while the OPC sold for average, right between a PSA6 and PSA7 averages.

The 6 and the 5.5 look about the same as my 8 to be honest.

Can you guys tell me why Probstein is so unpopular? I was out of the hobby from the late 90's until 2022/2023. I have purchased about 10 Hall of famers in PSA 9 condition from him. All cards were between 1976-1979 and all PSA 9's. The cards have not been expensive, usually under $100.. Examples include 78 Carlton, Brock, Fisk, Winfield in PSA 9 and I have never had one issue with him. I make the payment and usually have the cards within 5 days.

Do I have anything to worry about with the cards/slabs I purchased?
