Has anybody tried to cross a CACG Modern coin to PCGS?

ManorcourtmanManorcourtman Posts: 8,084 ✭✭✭✭✭

Anyone have any experience doing this? I have a Top pop 2024 Lincoln cent graded CACG MS68 and I'm considering a PCGS crossover attempt. I have no intentions on selling it but a PCGS 68 is worth WAY more due to the Registry craze for top pop modern Lincolns. Any thoughts? I am not sure the CACG Modern market values will ever reach the PCGS levels especially for Top Pop condition rarities. I'd be interested in any opinions on the Modern market and/or the perceptions between the two companies. I have talked to a couple Dealers at larger shows who were selling CACG moderns and they believed CACG had tighter standards on Modern grading but I am not sure that is correct!

    No

Considering the grading cost, loss of CAC CPG premium, a no go for me.

I operate on a narrow spread, Opex is high enough considering current market environment.

However if you want to gamble on the registry craze with that project it’s your money your investment.

If you mark up your current piece for retail (good margin) can you even move it?! I can’t even get rid of the 3 or 4 Linc cent mod proof 69 I have for even $10 (below Pcgs pG). Talk about a loser of an investment - but just $5 Cost each. Had them over 20 yr lol. Bought from vest pocket dealer friend back then. Drop price to $7? Or maybe a sign they are free for purchase over $60 of some other item in my bourse cases.

Ultra high grade modern business strikes continue to amaze. It's a great thing for the hobby just not something I've never been into.

As soon as I purchase a top pop coin the market seems to start producing them on a regular basis. Boy did I overpay for my RARE DCAM 70 Ike’s a while back….and got gouged pretty hard on several DCAM 69 Ike’s that are practically a dime a dozen now too. Ugh…..
