1873 S T$1 PCGS MS64 CAC **Chop Mark, Top pop**

Auction ends Friday, January 17th.

1873-S Trade Dollar, MS64 CAC

>>>> Link <<<<

The 1873 S is one of the toughest coins in the Trade Dollar series, and even more difficult to find chop marked.
The present coin is the sole finest top population example at PCGS that is completely fresh to market, and exhibits bold luster on excellent surfaces.

  • I am having difficulty locating the chop mark, is it what appears to be a point type mark above the D in dollar on the reverse?
Usually I see a Chinese letter or symbol, any help would br appreciated

I am a wholesale buyer for major coin companies can save tremendous amounts of money for my private side also

Hi @Shojohn11 you are correct, this coin has a very light chopmark on the reverse that is hard to see -- it is underneath the right wing of the eagle.

Coincidentally, this type of partial chopmark is observable on another high grade 1873S, see the last photo. It's one of the other plate coins on CoinFacts (PCGS MS63).

I was the underbidder, who caused the hammer price to get as high as it did. You owe me big time, lol. Without my participation, the final hammer would have been thousands less, as it was only me and the high bidder going at it for many bids.

It’s a real lovely coin that I would have liked to have in my collection as my one business strike Trade Dollar. I already have my one Proof Trade Dollar.

Congratulations on the sale of your special Trade Dollar!

What is the world coming to? If there is ever a winesteven chopped trade dollar, that was one; blast white CAC top pop with one minor chop. I love it!!!!!

I don't expect to see you in my pool very often but you are very welcome, the water is fine!

Thanks for the laugh! I'm glad that you also recognize why I (and at least another collector) really liked it. While I'm not a fan of Chop Marks, as we agree, this one was somewhat small and "well placed", and in my opinion the eye appeal attributes far outweighed that chop mark, which the "market" deems acceptable.

    Have a good week.
