First off, I must admit to being a bit crazy when it comes to coins. That probably holds for many of us I am guessing, but does not excuse me. Thank God I am not married at this life juncture!
Secondly, on this Forum all the "Latinophiles" get to me on occasion. Usually I am bored with the predominance of interest that is not my focus BUT occasionally I get a bit hooked & so it is I came to like Caballitos that have now gotten crazy in uncirculated grade (esp higher levels). But then every now and then I have come to appreciate the 8 escudo or equivalent early post-colonial issues, and even the occasional cap and ray pesos with the latter being more affordable generally.

But all this progressively has made me a bit vulnerable and so was looking through a recent Spanish auction & saw two coins I liked - the 1837 (?) South Peru 8E which was a lot more expensive, and then the 1844 Chile 8E that was still a bit though certainly less and also attractive. Well, I bid live and won the second:

However, the "juice", clearance by the Spanish state, shipping, insurance, credit card fees, DHL fees, and even customs on entry to this country REALLY added up to the point that really not a feasible IMHO way to go in order to get such a coin.

Anyway, I finally took delivery of this coin yesterday after extreme trials and tribulations including my bank declining the transaction numerous times. This picture does not do it justice, but when I opened the shipping box the coin was RATTLING LOOSELY with tears in the plastic flip that had gotten outside of the brown larger flip housing! What a nightmare!!!! I only took the one picture as I was in shock.

I do still like the coin and realize that it does have the strikethrough at the neck of Liberty/Athena. It is quite prooflike but has some hairlines that may put it in the lightly cleaned department. Haven't decided if I would slab it or not though....

The pictures on my old iPhone do not do it justice no matter what I do. I will see if I can do better later today.

Well, just Love coins, period.

I agree that we have strike through…not certain how it will grade based on the images
