Capped Bust Half Dime Attribution Challenge - January 2025
Subtitle: "The Six Blind Men and the Elephant."
This one was fun for me! Below are the seller's pics, in the order they appear in the listing. The eBay heading reads, "1832 Capped Bust Half Dime, Die Break Error; Vintage Old US Silver Coin Money" and I think it reveals a tendency toward redundancy, if the pictures weren't demonstration enough!
For new readers: the challenge is to identify the Logan-McCloskey (LM) variety (i.e., die marriage or remarriage) for this half dime.
A die marriage is a unique pairing of one obverse die with one reverse die. Remarriages occur when those dies are reunited after one of them was paired with a different mate for a period of time. Marriages are identified by LM-n where n is the marriage identifier (e.g., LM-11). If the dies were separated and then remarried, this adds a decimal number: "LM-n.y" shows the number of the remarriage in the y position (e.g., LM-13.2).
How to attribute? The Logan-McCloskey book "Federal Half Dimes 1792-1837" is authoritative. Or, you can use EverythingHalfDimes.com. Some folks have their own tools or cheat sheets.

I'll guess LM-6, without better pics of s12 I will still say Obv 2 and Rev P. Sorry if wrong.

Where is the die break?
Pretty sure he's referring to the M in AMERICA.

Here’s a little help

Recipient of the coveted "You Suck" award, April 2009 for cherrypicking a 1833 CBHD LM-5, and April 2022 for a 1835 LM-12, and again in Aug 2012 for picking off a 1952 FS-902.
@jesbroken I didn't arrive at the same attribution you did. One pickup point that I keyed in on is that third stroke of M being lapped, or missing.
I'll hold off on sharing my own attribution until we get later in the weekend...

First let me say I hate broken up photos. No full reverse photo. My choice was without verification of the lower left wing tip die crack and the lower left leaf die crack to rim and S1 as no photos for that. I chose to view the rim to T die crack, the A to rim Die crack and lower A left leg die crack, the distorted right M upright, the location of the 5C to feather, left ending scroll location, 5 lower right die crack to rim and right ending scroll location, etal. I felt pretty confident, but been there done that. lol

I agree with @jesbroken - LM-6. Rev P is the only one which is S2S-2, and many other things confirm, like both loops of S2 filled.
Regarding @Bikergeek's comment, the third stroke of M is in low relief but not missing on LM-6, judging from the plate photo. I look forward to more details on your attribution.
OK, I’m “safe” - what he said LOL
