@MedalCollector it looks like a chain strike, which means there’s a mated coin out there somewhere. You could look for telltale opposite rim weakness on the original strike but weighing it would also work.

How can one tell that is a clip, rather than a chain strike, without weighing it? I would have thought the flat edge was the result of a chain strike.
