First PMG submission

I certainly hope I do not offend our hosts by posting this, but I am preparing to make my first 20 note submission to PMG, and thought I would share the real world cost of the submission, in case anyone out there is curious.

First, I am submitting these 20 notes on the "Economy" tier, which supposedly will take approximately 39 days turn around time. I am guessing that this is from the time they receive it, until the time they mail it out. Anyway, I will post replies to this thread detailing the actual time it takes for the submission. I don't plan on shipping it out for another 10 days or so because I am awaiting a few notes I purchased on Ebay.

I plan on having each note imaged, which is an additional $5 per note, and also (and this is my favorite part!) I am adding my Pedigree to the holder of each note, which is another $5 per note!

Some of these are local Obsolete notes (Oklahoma / Indian Territory), some are local National notes, and a few are MPC's (Military Payment Certificates).

So, there will be a total of twenty notes, the base cost of each is $37. So 20 x $37 = $740
The Pedigree on each note is $5 per. So, 20 x $5 = $100
Imaging each note is also $5 per. So, 20 x $5 = $100
Handling fee is a flat $10
Return shipping and insurance is $42 according to PMG.

So, the grand total of the twenty note economy submission is $992.00

Again, I am putting this all out there just in case anyone is curious as to what it costs, and I will keep this thread updated on how long it takes and the grades, etc. The obsoletes are MS but the Nationals and MPC's are circulated.

Best regards,

This is a good post. Many collectors are interested in the costs and time parameters if they submit their notes for grading. You are right, the turnaround time is from the time they receive the package to the time they ship the notes. The length of time they are in the mail is not part of the equation. It should also be mentioned that there is a fee for each mistake on the submission form, so be sure to get the right Friedberg number beforehand. That's important for new collectors who want to hurry up and fill their form out. Take your time with it. I look forward to reading about your experience.

    Totally agree with Michael’s post.
Very informative and detailed. And, as the OP mentions, hats off to our host (PCGS) for allowing threads like this on their forum.

I just had a PMG economy submission returned to me this week. From the date they received it to the day it was back in my hands was about 2 months. Right around the quoted lead time (the holidays delayed it some).

Hope your submission meets your expectations… I like what you have selected. I have no idea about the Military payment cert…

I am like @Steve_in_Tampa & others here who find threads like these informative & helpful. I have published my own PMG bulk submission here (a few years back). Hope to make a 2nd bulk submission in 2025.

Good luck with your results (& looking forward to seeing where this goes)!

Just to add something that some might find helpful… a few years back, I used my membership vouchers for 8 currency submissions. I think I posted most if not all of the results. I think the grades were in a range from VF20 to MS65- all small sized nationals. I plan to submit again.

Thanks for all the replies! I am excited to get everything together and send them off. I still haven't decided precisely which 20 notes I am sending. I have more than 20 notes that I'd like graded but can only afford 20 for now. I will submit the others later. Anyway, I will let you all know how it goes, just as soon as I get everything together.
@TennisCoach I don't think those Indian Territory obsoletes have a Friedberg number, but the PMG label I posted above IS from one of those same type notes that I purchased already graded. (I Photoshopped my pedigree onto it to see what it will look like.)
Do you see a Friedberg number anywhere? Do you think it's safe to leave that part blank on the form?

These types of Indian Territory notes won't have Friedberg numbers because they were not issued by the BEP. Most of these that I've seen say Hailey Coal and Mining Company and are remainder notes. The note above says Trade note. I would just put the title in the space and make clear that the note is a remainder. And just put 1900s as far as series year. These notes were not assigned Friedberg or Pick number due to their private issuance.

Great thread, and good luck on your submission!

I too like the thought of having a pedigree put on the note and imaging, I think that stuff is worthwhile to do one thing NGC does that I really like is the scratch resistant coating on the slabs!

I wish PCGS did something similar cause it really does make the holder really really clear And scratch resistant they look awesome! I have a handful of slabs that I bought that I can tell, had that coating on them…

Unfortunately, I don’t think the PMG holders have anything like that… That’s just for the coins.
