My daughter is really into coin collecting and there isn't a coin shop for miles and Im really not good enough at spotting fakes at flea markets or pawn shops and eBay. So I was looking at apmex and was wondering if their raw uncirculated coins are worth paying their price. Their walking liberty half dollars in particular. But any of their rare coinage really.thanks in advance.

  • I have purchased $1000s worth of bullion and coins from APMEX. Their prices are reasonable and they accept crypto-currency. So far, I have purchased everything using ETH and haven't encountered anything distasteful throughout the entire process. They are very reputable and reliable and I will continue to purchase from them whenever their ever-changing stock catches my attention and pricing is advantagous.

  • apmex is a completely trustworthy store, some products are a little expensive, but I have never had problems with them

  • I have this 1973 D penny that appears to have been struck through I've tried researching it. However I haven't found another example like this. Anyone have an idea on the value of an error like this?

Why did you post this in someone else's thread about a different topic?

Start your own thread with an appropriate title if you want people to see it.

  • buy slabbed coin and check the verification, only buying from seller with many feedback. That is what I suggest to do

  • Thanks.

IMO, buying from APMEX is taking a needless risk. You never know for sure what you're going to receive from them. Many of their photos are stock photos and no coin photographed is guaranteed to be the coin one receives. For bullion, that's fine. For individual coins, it's not.

They posted a VF30 1855/54 as an 1855 normal date two years ago and wanted $470 for it (too high for a normal date in VF30). THEY KNEW IT WAS AN OVERDATE BUT DIDN'T MENTION IT IN THEIR AD. Given that they state that photos are often stock photos, what's to prevent APMEX from sending a buyer a normal date. What recourse does one have if they complain to APMEX.

I've notified APMEX of this "issue" but contacting them was a waste of time.

They may be 100% above board, but I will not buy from APMEX for that failure to guarantee the coin photographed is the one a person will receive.

  • What is she collecting? I'd be happy to send you and her a coin or two from my extras.

  • I've been very happy with my APMEX purchase over the last 4 years when I started back into collecting. Though I mainly have bought US Mint proof sets and mint sets from them (older sets with silver), the coins have all been great. Like everything, it pays to do your own research and compare pricing. I've found APMEX to be a very good market indicator of the middle-of-the-road price- sometimes higher than others, sometimes lower. But fair overall pricing generally I'd say. I use their pricing to spot trends, as in what recent US Mint products are trending up, trending down, or staying flat.
