How can one side of this penny be centered?

I've read about how these coins are pressed. But I

can't visualize how one side can be off center, and the other side be squared? If indeed the cause of this is due to being off center?

Don't matter how you do it, just do it like you know it!

The dies are independently aligned. You're thinking of the strike being off center because the planchet is placed off center. , In that case it would be off center on both sides.

With a misaligned die, the planchet is seated properly but one of the dies is not centered over the planchet as it should be.

Imagine taking a pat of butter and two quarters. If you squeeze the past off butter between the two quarters, you'll get an image on both sides of the butter. If the bottom quarter is centered in the pat but the top quarter is 25% off the butter, you'll have one good image and one displaced image.

    It's a fairly common error.
