Anyone familiar with this Peace Dollar VAM? 1923-P, Gouge in Rays

P0CKETCHANGEP0CKETCHANGE Posts: 2,693 ✭✭✭✭✭

I'm not a VAM collector or expert, but noticed this die gouge in the rays of one of my dollars. I looked through the VAMs and didn't see any matches, but did find a match on CoinFacts (w/Larry Shepherd provenance) as well as a post on another forum asking the same question, but getting no reply. Anyone here familiar with this?

No idea about VAMS either. But I give these VAM guys a lot of credit. It seems like a never ending task. Like you could spend an entire hobby or life time on VAMS and never get to the end of it.

I have two 1922 dated coins with these marks. Mine are stronger and connected to the leaves. I have not been able to find a VAM # for them either. I know they are not valuable but think they should have been given a VAM #. Please help.

It's a well known clash and not of any significance. Letter transfers count and this is not one of them.

Edit: after looking thru the 1923 listings, this coin looks similar to VAM 1CK. That blemish between the 1 and 9 on the truview could be part of the "polished triangle" mentioned in a few of the listings. The crack in her lower neck is also a close match.

Any help with the clash on 1922 dollars? I've looked and looked. Thanks.

That double shoulder spike close to the neck might be helpful. Peace Roy
