Wouldn't surprise me if it's a name tag for a locker. The letters look like they were stamped by hand.
definatly hand stamped... it was found near an intersection... one of the roads was biddle... cannot find any map mention of a crossroad of cornell.
Could it be a livestock tag
Soldier tag
Slave tag
I have a map of my neighborhood from the 1890s which is usable today, except, several street names have been changed.
Officers belongings were often several trunks. I'm going with trunk label of the Colonel. Nice find!

Interesting find. The idea of it being a tag for a crate or large box containing luggage/personal effects of two military personnel seems very plausible.
made of lead i would think it would consider it too soft for a trunk label but then again, i cant find any other possibility so far
