Appraisal for my Buffalo Nickel Set

Hello everyone,
I’m looking for some expert advice and an appraisal for my Buffalo nickel collection. I’ve worked hard to assemble this set, but I’m still missing a few key dates:

  • 1913-D Raised Ground
  • 1913-S Raised Ground
  • 1914-D
  • 1915
  • 1915-S
  • 1920-S
  • 1921-S
  • 1924-S
  • 1925-S
  • 1925-D
  • 1926-S
  • 1927-S
  • 1929-S
  • 1931-S
  • 1937-D

The coins I currently own are predominantly brown in color, with some showing signs of corrosion. I’ve attached pictures for reference and would greatly appreciate help estimating the value of my collection in its current state.

I’m also trying to complete the set with nice circulated examples that have readable dates and mintmarks. Could anyone provide guidance on how much it might cost to acquire the missing coins in this condition? Any tips on affordable sources or strategies for finding these coins would also be a huge help.

Thank you so much for your time and expertise—I really appreciate it!

  • Also, I'm assuming that the brown stuff is corrosion or encrustation from being underground at some point, but could anyone verify that for me.

Clear you’re putting this set together on the cheap, even the Whitman folder looks like it’s been through a lot. There is nothing wrong with that and you still get the excitement of working on and completing a set. When you start trying to value your set you can’t scroll across the redbook page to the right. Some of your coins are all the way to the left and off the page.

IMHO You would best be served by understanding post mint damage to coins, which would prevent many of those coins from being valued at anything above face. Good luck with your project.

It looks like a number of these are acid date coins that were improperly rinsed.
That and the corroded coins have very little value. The set as is would likely be worth less than $20.

    Appraisal: $15.00
Expert advice: Don't buy the acid date coins.

  • Thanks! I was just doing this as more of a fun project -- didn't spend too much.
