In 1990, I went to my cousin's bachelor party in NYC. We stopped at Macy's Herald Square on the way.
The coin dept was mostly gone, but the salesman said he had maybe 1 or 2 19th century dimes.
He pulls out an 1872-CC in an ancient flip holder! The price said $110! My eyes popped out like in the cartoons. I think the going rate then was about $700.
Coin was sent to PCGS and came back G-6 (years later). Strangely enough that was not this coin! I paid up about $100 to get this nicer G-6 after selling the other one. Kinda wish I didn't sell it, since it was my best buy ever.

I didn't make very many of these and they are seldomly found now:

1872-CC 10c PCGS G-6
You got the mintage wrong for 70-CC half dollars. The first two digits should be switched, i.e., "54,617" instead of "45,617."
I guess you know that already. That's probably why it's rare.
Notched R!!! Love these!
May I use your images in a new article I am writing?
I have no problem with that.

I would like everyone to remember that minting at the Carson City Mint began on Feb 4th, 1870, not the Feb 11, 1870 date as reported for the past century.
History books can be wrong.
Please see my thread on this with documents showing the date was the 4th.

A recent purchase:
I sold several of these 1878-cc Morgans in the $150-$175 price range, I figured that was fair. Was I right?
